Car MPG - Bluemotion Golf

I got my 5.5 V8 AMG into single figures on numerous occasions. I swear any lower it wouldn't have been MPG but rather GPM
Yin Yang our other car did 60mpg so evened out.

Parkers give an MPG figure for your car as 46MPG, so you must have been very lucky or very careful, because the ST Mondeo diesel 2.2 is not known for being an economic car - 150+ BHP on a largeish car.
I never got below 53mpg even on short journeys in winter, careful only in the sense of watching the road ahead, anticipating what others are going to do, being in the right gear etc. Car may have been big but handled very well. Could easily carry speed through bends on country roads without having to brake or slow down too much. You don't have to dawdle in a car, just be smooth.

A quick google tells me

35.20 mpg combined for my Citroen C4 Grand Picasso MPV

30.00 mpg combined for my Discovery which I think is a bit optimistic.

Had 2 Audi's, A4 and A3. Both had 2.0tdi (140 bhp versions) both got 50mpg easily with the climate control on constantly (air conditioning included) and I don't try to drive with economy in mind (I have a fully paid for fuel card through work).

If I was a distance from a BP garage and had to try to be economical I could get 60mpg easily in both cars.

So, maybe something's up with yours.

I drive a VW Caddy Maxi van for work which consistently returns 45-50mpg. When it is empty (rarely) in the back and I drive more carefully, it returns 55-60mpg!

So would expect more from a golf!
