I was wondering if anyone knew where I could buy a car mount rig for my Canon 400d? As I'm wanting to get some rolling shots of the car, but not so confident of hanging out of car windows!

Any help would be much appreciated

There are a couple of places on ebay that sell the suction mounts for putting the camera on the roof/side/bonnet of the car (about £70-100) or you could use a Manfrotto superclamp mounted to something like the door window frame/bonnet edge/sunroof opening.

I'm not far from you so if you want to try my superclamp then pm me.

Whatever method you use make sure you use a tether to stop your 400d bouncing off the terra firma ;)

You could also try the ergorest multipod about £60 - agree about the tether though :D

b.hague mate! If top gear use them then they can't be bad

I've used the SM1 suction mount for a camcorder loads of times ont he inside of the windscreen - its not very easy to mount if there is any curve on the glass (you really have to push very hard to gain a seal when creating the suction). Flatter areas are fine. It will stay put for a few hours, but you need to monitor the suction button (it has a red warning line on it ) and pump it up to maintain guaranteed adhesion. Not a problem.

With a DLR the extra weight might erode the time to which you need to increase vacuum.

On the outside of a car ? - i've never tried it - i always wanted to try it, but never had the guts with a heavy SLR.

5th Gear/Top Gear use them, but for external work they use the 3 or 4 suction clamp version.
