How does it work???

Fully comp is cheaper than third party.

A 1.6 VTR Saxo is only £300 more to insure than a 1.0 Micra

As you cna proberly guess, I want a VTR now :D

Go try sitting in a Saxo first, the driving position is bloody awful, I wouldn't have one as a gift....

But I wouldn't drive a Micra...just because it's a frackin' Micra!

A nice little Punto, that's what you want :)

Ibiza's aren't bad, wish I still had mine :(

Look at the price difference between 3rd party and fully comp - if the difference is more than the value of the car its a no brainer, if the difference is less than the car you have to decide whether to gamble and maybe pay out for a new car

Micras come with blue rinse wigs and thick glasses as standard.

micra SS (super sport)
them things aint bad, by no means the quickest thing but look quite nice as theyre slightly bigger i believe there 1.3sr's

you really want a saxo

1. there french (so theyl quit on you have way like in the war)
2. everybody is instantly thinking another chav in a saxo with annoying loud music and exaust
3. there french

save your money as far as a VTR goes Matt, seen a few in smashes and the damage they take it stupid, not very safe at all

Fully comp cheaper then 3rd party? that with the same company on the same car? Very odd if the case, try and avoid 3rd party if poss.

Insurance is based on many things, i had a modded MG'f around 200bhp at the rear wheels, that cost less to insure then my now completely standard run of the mill Mondeo TDCi (that has just passed the MOT again with no faults) i could drive a ST220 with no extra primuim shame the fuel bill would kill me though.

Matt your spelling/typing is getting worse. Let me rewrite it for you and you can write it out 100 times

As you can probably guess, I want a TVR now:D

I heard on the radio the other morning, under the Age Discrimination Laws, Insurance Co.'s will no longer be able to penalise a driver because they are young. So now everyone elses premiums will go up to compensate.

Who knows?

Ive just got a new car, apparently it was too expensive for my current policy, so I would have to start a new one. Current Insurance company quoted me £1000 a year, so I went to Admiral, who did it for £500. Didnt get an extra years no claims, so its actually costing me less for Fully Comp on a brand new Ford KA, then it was for third party on a Punto (same size engine)

We did the 1.2 Clio as a starter car for my son. Most grunt you can have for the insurance as a 17yr old.

Now he's got a 1.6 16v zetec focus, for the same reasons.

he's now built up his no claims to 4 years, is 21, lots of cars start to look affordable.

And if you are old!
so we will all get hit twice:eek:

Well I don't care as I just saved nearly €1500 a year on my insurance by coming back to UK - you think British Insurance companies are expensive?
46 years old, with 6 years no-claims:
2000 Ford Cougar 2.5 V6 costs £198 fully-comp in the UK - €735 in Germany
2008 Ford Mustang 4.6 V8 costs £369 fully-comp (limited mileage, 2nd Car) in the UK - €1392 in Germany

for ****s sake, its not discriminating against someone because of their age, its increasing the premiums of younger drivers because of their lack of experience and the statistics that prove they are more likely to be involved in accidents. it'll be discriminating to increase premiums for people living in 'high risk' 'high crime' areas soon, so again everyone elses premiums increases to compensate!

of course soon it will be discrimnating to punish those who cannot afford insurance for their cars so drive around without it!:bang:

when i was younger I brought a really really fast kit car :bonk::bonk::bonk:- mid engine 3.5 litre v8

it was group 10 (same as 20 now) but by phoning around i went from around £1500 third party :cuckoo: to around £300 fully comp - made no sense...

Firstly, It will be a lot of money to insure a VTR when you have just passed your test, Secondly, Full comp insures both your car and the car you hit. Rather then just ther car ou hit on 3rd Party (Fire and theft)
thirdly, Shop about for car insurance and dont always this "confused.com" or "elephant.co.uk" are the only insurance companys. There are a lot of other specialist companys, who, Quite frankly laugh at those websites because they are crap.

The main things are Your postcode (is it a safe area), Your points, and if its modified.

I've driven modified cars all my life and have never payed over £1400. (some may laugh at that price, but lets face it - they are oldies who passed there test by driving to the end of the raod and back)

are these quote's for you not having passed yet?

it's usually cheaper like that...

misus went from £600 to 1100 when getting quotes before she passed then quote on car after she passed

I'll never understand car insurance ...

I've been ringing round for speculative quotes recently as mine's modified and I'm making a few more changes soon; my current insurer quoted around £840; the lowest I've had so far has been £380.

I got an online quote from someone, I forget who now, and it worked out cheaper to park it on the street than to park it on private land

(same size engine)

Engine size is one of many factors taken into account when quoting for
car/bike insurance ;)

ALL kit cars are meant to be the lowest insurance band - at least that's how I understood it

Avoid the micra, apparently they're joyriders car of choice due to them being stupibly easy to steal!

I think that only applies to the MkI and most of those have rusted away by now.....

but in general older cars are more expensive to insure, it cost me more to insure £600 of old Citroen Xsara than to insure £10k worth of Lexus IS200

Its all to do with the insurers experience of the risks. This is why I always suggest 'grown up' cars to young drivers. The general experience of the insurers is that trendy cars are more likely to have accidents than boring cars.

You just need to find out which q-cars have been missed by the insurers. Used to be decent turbo diesels, but I think thinks like the Skoda VRS and the generic tdis have shot that.

older cars are more expensive sometimes because of two reasons:

more likely to be stolen (youths working there way along a list as part of training)

more likely to be hammered and driven recklessly

I just gotted rid of my 1.2l N reg Clio, Which I loved, but he was dying (I cried) and gots a VOLVOO!!! V40 estate 1.9TD and it's immense! I know I sound like an old man!

did **Over the speed limit by lots** and it didn't even feel like 70!

Can you tell i love my car?

I swapped my 1.2 Clio for a Fabia vRS (1.9 TDI) and my insurance went up about £60. Turned out to be a pretty good swap :D

Corsa?

It's like driving a hair-drier powered shopping trolley.

I never said I could. I merely stated that in my opinion, Corsas are the single worst cars I have ever driven.
