In short...

1 - Car insurance expires in 4 weeks, I'll be on holiday then so thought i'd sort it out now.
2 - Not even received the reminder letter yet so called, Zurich wants £576.
3 - Money Supermarket gives 10 companies between £375 to £450, include esure, Sainsbury's Churchill, AXA, quite reputable insurers
4 - Zurich's best off was 0p off, but £50 Sainsbury's voucher. (I almost laughed)
5 - Called Churchill, gave them my quote number from MSM, 10 mins later I got new insurance.

£200 saved !

I find that I get a new company that's the cheapest, they stay cheap for my first renewal (2nd year insurance) then when they think I'm hooked they jack it up on the 2nd renewal.

Can't remember ever being with the same company for more than 2 year (although I have returned to a couple once they've gone back down)

I've had that as well, still as Ricco says ..
Using a comparison site should be an annual ritual. It's a no-brainer.

I've just saved £330 / year on my fuel bills (y)

Admittedly that's one thing I rarely if ever check, but due to a very unreasonable customer service and price hike this last month,
it needed to be done.

Online quotes - hmmmmm..........
Try for car insurance - my car details are not quite right so nothing they offer me is right, although funnily enough my current insurer and the DVLA have everything correct.
Try for home insurance - my house construction type isn't listed even though it's not exactly rare or unusual (actually all the rare and unusual types seem to be listed).
Try for energy providers - they'll only quote me for DD, which I do not want and can't be directly compared with what I'm currently paying.
Technology is great when it works................! ;)

went through all the normal comparison sites this year ,all of a similar price with varying degrees of extras .just about to go for one when i got a junk mail through the door from RIAS insurance ,phoned them up they bettered any quote by far and above and all the extras were included as standard i.e no claims protection ,windscreen cover, legal cover ,and when i had to change over cars recently a small reasonable charge only and i was pleasantly surprised to find that the full comp covers me to drive other peoples cars to on third party .it remains to be seen what next years re-newal comes in at but you never know .

another company i have previously found to be good but not on comparison sites is N.F.U again where your treated as a customer rather than a number ,i had a specific girl that looked after my account and dealt with her only every time .they got to expensive over a bow i had though so had to change .

Hope you used quidco as you could get another £25 from Churchill :)

Use a broker, it won't even cost you the morning of ringing around to find the deal :)

Good shout on quidco! I always look up big purchases and any annual policies on quidco. Have received close to £600 for free since joining a couple of years ago, all on purchases I was going to make anyway. I'm also picking up about £500 per year putting as much as I can through a platinum AMEX cashback card (paying balance in full every month so not paying any interest). Finally, moved by bank account to a Santander 123; more cashback. Between those 3, got to be worth about £1k/year in cashback.

If any of you have high performance or modified cars, sky insurance is well worth a look. They're not on the comparison sites.
