I used to insure with Quinn insurance, based in Ireland, my last insurance with them expired in April last year (2010), the premium for the year was £230.00.

I then get a letter from Quinn stating that they cannot quote on a renewal due to having to withdraw from the UK market.

Ringing around, the best quote I can get is £440.00 so, have to go with that.

My present insurers sent me a renewal letter today, quoting me £551.00 even though I've had no claims and have an extra year (6 in total) no claims discount.

I had heard in the meantime that Quinn, my original insurer, have been allowed to trade in the UK again so, gave them a call for a quote, nice girl on the phone quoted me £1016.00.

What the **** is going on with insurance companies?

Rant over

My insurer from last year has also stopped quoting - NIG, which means the next best one for me is 50% more expensive. I've had to drop to TPFT cover to keep it within budget. I have however managed to wrangle 3rd party cover on other vehicles though which is pretty snazzy for a TPFT policy. Still, £450 on a 1.6 Civic is a lot of money!

My one gone up to 574 from 430 even though I have an additional years NCB. Its all because of the dodgy claims people are putting in by faking a rear hit accident.

Mine was 1136.57 this year... awful.

With 3 years NCB too.

i would never use quinn anyway they ceased trading a few months back but started up again

Are you all using the gocomparethemoneysupermarket websites?
Have you tried usin gthe Moneysavingexpert system and looked for cashback etc?

That's what they say and also very true. What they don't say is that they also sell the details of 'not to blame' individuals involved to the lawyers to pursue the dodgy claims :cuckoo:

The whole system runs on backhanders! insurance co's getting a kickback from the lawyers for the injury claim, garages getting a kickback from the carhire company for replacement vehicles...etc. Now your broker can sell you an add on policy to ensure that you don't have any losses if hit by an unisured driver - which involves you using their accident management system if non fault - which means they sell you details to the lawyers and he carhire companies and also the bodyshops who all bill more if they can bill an at fault insurance company. The broker policy is great 0 you pay them whether yo uhave an accident or not, and then when you do, they get paid more!

Some of these insurance numbers are

On Monday I insured a new (to me) car. No NCB available as I am using it on other vehicles. The car is a Clan Crusader, it's a fully prepared stage rally car with MSA logbook (so is allowed to be competed on stage rallies as it has been checked by an offical scrutineer) so has a full rollcage, extinguishers, harnesses, bucket sets, a massive list of modifications, engine producing almost three times the power that the original did (115bhp vs 39bhp) meaning 0-60 in under 5 seconds and so on and so on. Cost? £265 fully comp (with REIS). It's not on a classic policy so I will accrue NCB if I don't claim.

You wouldn't want to use it for commuting as it uses an awful lot of petrol and is very loud.

I tried REIS for all my competiotion cars but it was never as cheap as getting a seperate road policy and then insurance for the events. Maybe because none of them were logbooked (as they were road rally cars not Stage) they didnt qualify for certain deals? Everything was fully homologated tough so it could have been logbooked had I wanted to go to that spec. I don't suppose my age helped then either! (18-21 wen I was competing)

Could be worse, as a new driver, i'm looking at quotes of £3500 a year. And as a full time student with just a part time job it's looking pretty much impossible!

My friend's son was put on his multicar policy, so it wont affect the main policy holders NCB if/when the son crashes :)
Might be worth looking into.

Oh you lucky man, I had one of these about 30 years ago, road prepared and maybe not as much power but a joy to drive, if only I held on to some of the nicer cars that passed through my hands. Ah well, enjoy.
I've had quotes ranging from £1380 t0 £288 for my Honda, how can they differ so wildly for the same car/cover/drivers, I know which one I'm taking up.

Oh we like pictures(Hint Hint).

i had my old car (mondeo cdti, 2004 6 speed) insured with quick fit the year before last and some old lady drove into it while i was out of the car and it was on the pavement locked (so totally not my fault).the insurance legal team aranged for their garage totake it away and repair the damage which was just a dent in the front wheel arch and a scrape on the bumper, it had half a tank of fuel when they collected it by trailer and they had it 3 weeks, it came back a non runner with an empty tank, had 7 new dents on it and they had resprayed the front including the majority of the headlights, i complained about it and they said the deisel was used on a test drive (it went in for a dent) and they had no idea why it didnt run anymore and if i wanted them to fix it they would have to take it back to the same garage! to add insult to injury a few weeks later i had a renewal letter and the insurance had gone from £337 to £907. I rang them up and told them i wouldnt be renewing and they did anyway and tried to take me to court for the premium! i hate insurance companys lol

Taken just after I got it home. The engine and transaxle were out, hence it sitting rather high and the wheels are temporary to get it on the trailer - a different set of revolutions will be going on in due course (when I buy tyres for them):

£198 for my Focus fully comp, that's with direct line.... not too bad

he he... mine has gone down for the second time in 2 yrs £185 FC + Business Class A (max NCB protected), however, the benefits I get from where I work now, makes that sound expensive....... and thats for a devil fuel punto.
