Short story

I've driven a company car for 25 years but was given the offer to dump the car for a van.

Good for me as no more tax, no more fuel tax but......

Obviously I had to get my own car. Got myself an old Merc and insured it, company said you can have 3 years no claims if you supply us a letter from your employer that's you've been accident free. Got the letter sent it and thought no more of it.

They have now twice threatened to cancel my insurance because I still have access to the company car so shouldn't have been offered the no claims.

So peed off I'm going to cancel and go elsewhere.

So looking for some recommendations other the notso e sure insurance :nono:

Whichever is cheapest but for your own peace of mind avoid any that are run by BISL. I tend to swap back and forth between Saga and Direct Line each year to keep the premium down.

I always use one of the compare sites and go with the lowest company that I've heard of. If you then phone them directly they will often match the lowest quote ( from one of the co you haven't heard of)

depends what you want? Price or Service?

Many of the cheap prices on comparison sites are rock bottom cover, add £20 for legal fees, call premium lines for claims / customer services etc, charge £x for a mid term adjustment etc...

top tip - add another claim free driver (pref of opposite sex) - this usually generates a discount!
Obviously dependent on many circumstances and if your postcode starts with just an M then likely to be higher (even though most now rate on full postcode, a single identifier is recognised as major urban area therefore crime etc...)

I don't know your age, but if 50+ saga? I would normally suggest the co I work for, but pretty sure car (depends on how old) and location would price us out of the market.

I would not use anyone other than direct line. For 2 motor claims and 1 house in the last 10 years they have been faultless in service and coughing up. Unlike a cheaper house insurer who made me wait 2 months plus for payment. Only thinks is renewal is expensive and much better to not renew and take out a new online policy.
