That's a scary story CT, I'm glad to hear she is not seriously harmed.

Let's hope the catch the scum bags responsible.

Are car jackings common in the UK? I naively thought they were pretty rare.....

Way way to comment now with performance cars. I have heard this story way to much and why i used to drive my older car - it was one of the reasons why I would never run the car down to the red fuel light. I always made sure that, If needed, I could atempt to loose them or get to a police station.

1 thing to remember though:
She is OK and the gun was not used for the reason they were originally made. At the end of the day although its a lot of money, its rubbed and metal and not a life!

The armed police worry me, mainly because a CTR got away, Its a quick car but not the quickest on the road... This is way I always believe they themselves should drive high performance cars... instead they would have probably been in an estate - 4 up :(

Possibly have this wrong as I'm not sure if you mentioned the armed police chased or unarmed...

Thats a terrible thing to happen...

Three guys with guns on a 5'2" lass shows what cowards they really are.

I work at a defence site and we had a guy loose his Subaru outside the works car park when he was approached by two guys with a knife.

Not that common around here Pete thankfully, but Manchester/Liverpool is a hotbed for it - it's pretty commonplace up there. They've made cars virtually impossible to steal without the keys, so this is what they do now if they want the car badly enough - or they just burgle the house for the keys.

No it was just a divisional patrol - I dunno what they were driving but it probably wasn't much more than your average shopping trolley. The armed response vehicle would be something very high performance.

It certainly makes driving something more mundane and less desirable a more desirable option....anyone that wants to steal my scenic would have to be pretty damn desperate, though it still wouldn't surprise me to find that such a moron exists :cuckoo:

Astra Diesel in all liklihood...
Should be driving Scoobies or Evo's like in Hot Fuzz...
...and have SIG's and MP5 or DeMarco carbines to hand...

I know most UK coppers are opposed to firearms as a matter of course, but no-one else anywhere in Europe is bothered by 'normal' coppers wearing handguns, so why should we be...?

The argument that criminals will 'tool-up' by way of escalation is rubbish...wake up! They already do!

Shocking news CT - at least your daughter in law is OK and hopefully the incident will not have a longer term effect on her.

I expect that she will be robbed again by her Insurance Company as they try to minimise their payout.

I too hope your daughter in law makes a quick and full recovery after that ordeal. Like the others here, I can think of many reasons why the ***** should suffer. Shame she couldn't have reversed over them!
Justice doesn't exist for these types of things, they have freedom of the country and just angers me more having been on the receiving end of anti social behaviour. Surprisingly none of the politicians seem to have any answer, and neither do the police...

Unbelievable, I hope your daughter in law recovers quickly and they catch the ****ing ******s responsible.

Yep. Happened to us a few weeks ago.Didn't get them though.

Kev.

bad news.
hope she recovers quickly, she sounds like a fighter & she reacted quickly enough under pressure to get her bag back so she's a credit to you
Civic type R are a favourite getaway car as they are small enough to nip through traffic & still pretty fast once you get them on the motorway.
as they were armed i reckon thats where this cars headed & it'll be in storage now until they need it. the first week or so they just leave them unattended just to see if you have a tracker fitted so if its found during this time it'll be as it was when they took it.

lets just hope they get what they deserve sooner rather than later!

Where's Gene Hunt when you need him??

"Stand still.... you are surrounded by armed bastids!"

That is truly terrible. On the plus side nothing is broken, though must be a terrifying experience caused by some thieving scum pondlife. Hopefully forensics can get some DNA / dabs from the car and get 2+2 to equal 4. My money is that the 3 are probably known to the police, and a result will occur.

Bring out the axes and pitchforks!

That's what I was hoping, but sadly it seems that's not the case.

The good news is that she's on the mend with a very positive attitude. Despite being angry at losing her car, she's taking the view that it's happened and she has to deal with it.

The good news is that they had gap insurance on the car if it doesn't turn up. She wants it back - Graham doesn't - he hates the car. Actually that's not quite right - he loves the car... hates the engine.

The lesson to be learned though is never under-estimate how far these animals will go to get your car. Many cars today lock you in automatically at a certain speed and don't unlock until you remove the ignition key or physically pull the door handle from inside. That's the point at which these people will make their move, so be aware of what's going on around you and keep an eye on that mirror for who's behind you - if you think youj might be being followed then drive straight to the nearest police station, or at the very least to a densely populated area.

When refuelling, never leave the keys in the ignition as the car is particularly vunerable at that point.

Thanls for the support folks - it's very much appreciated!

Glad to hear your daughters on the mend, unfortunately it's becomming a more common occurance...

What's the reg and colour of the vehicle, I'm a member of a couple of Jap car clubs and we tend to post up when things like this have happened on the off chance the caris spotted somewhere, it's getting less and less likely but cars have been found like this in the past and the [insert words of choice] have been brought to book...

Unfortunately most theiving scum are changing plated quickly now which makes it more difficult but you never know!

What makes this more disgusting is that when I was out in Southampton the other night taking photographs around town I saw 4 Police cars pulled up in a layby, and around 8/9 coppers stood around chatting, one of them with a speed camera. I set my camera up and took a few photos of them and one of them even had the cheek to wave to me. They were there for at least half an hour, and then when a Mercedes SLK sped past on the opposite side of the road they chased him down and brought him back and probably gave him a ticket. It's nice to know our tax money is being spent well, at least.

Thoughts with you and your family, hope she'll be okay!

I think I can just about remember when I was very little and when police wore firearms. I preferred it that way. Then there was all the hoo hah about them being taken away..

Not good Cedric, I hope the brave lady in questions recovers well, she sounds like a fighter.

As for the "people" who did this, we both know that "if" they are apprehended and "if " it gets to court, "if" they get any sentence at all,it will not justify the crime they are convicted of.There is just no deterrent anymore, none at all,it is quite depressing really.

Just spotted this thread and had a read through...

Blimey Cedric, not good! I do hope your sis-in-law continues to recover well and the perpetrators get exactly what they deserve!!!

Well she's suffering from nerves a bit now but she's doing OK.

It now transpires that on the following day they stole a Golf GTI from a middle aged couple in Dudley at gunpoint, and the day after that they pulled a £100K armed robbery on a jewellers in Dudley.

CLICKY

Very glad to hear of her recovery..........:)

but surely your second comment lends weight to the "dont fight back - they will not consider your well-being" argument...?

dont know about cars - but we have 250 taxi in our company alone working in the south Glasgow area

often we get a screen message to look out for a missing child
pleased to say in every case it was a happy outcome - but that's many cars on the look-out instead of the usual 6 patrol cars !

My best to your family mate, and I truly hope that very soon, they try the same trick on someone who then proceeds to fill them in.
Or better yet, as a previous poster has said, let them pull a weapon on a firearms unit.
(although I would feel sorry for the plod who pulls the trigger- he would be in a world of paperwork)

No argument - that's always the official advice given in these circumstances. What you actually do instinctively at the time though depends very much on your personal temperament.

So sorry to hear this; and I pray for your daughters' speedy recovery (both emotional and physical).

Reading through this thread wasn't pleasant at all, but this is nothing compared to the emotional trauma your poor child has had to endure.

I hope there are no long term effects due from this :shake:. Wish I could offer, or say, anything to help alleviate if a bit of the suffering.

Hope that shes on the mend and that you get all the car stuff sorted. insurance and other companies can lead to distraction when you are trying to move on !!!!

A crappy situation but glad that everyone is ok (of sorts)

Cedric really sorry to hear what happened to your daughter in law.

It really makes you sick when you read what some scumbags get up to.

An update to this saga...

She's now been contacted by the police and informed this was a 4 man team. Two are now in prison and one's been shot dead. The police now want her to give evidence against the fourth guy who it seems is a very violent intimidating character. This has awakened some bad memories for her obviously, she's still very nervous getting out of the car on her driveway as it is, and always looks around before getting out.

What isn't helping is that the police apparently have video of these ***** following her in the Civic along the A5 on 2 or 3 occasions previous to actually taking her car so there's absolutely no doubt that this guy knows where she lives.

She's a bundle of nerves just at the thought of giving evidence against the guy and is inclined to refuse. Much as it goes against the grain I'm not inclined to try to talk her into it either.

Just caught sight of this thread, what a truly frightening experience and now the dilema of whether to give evidence or not.

I suppose one way of looking at it is, as you said, this scumbag already knows where she lives, her giving evidence could send him down for a long time but not forever.

If she doesn't give evidence he may only get a short stretch but still decide retribution's in order

Can't imagine how she must feel right now :(

My personal opinion is that this guy should be beaten to death over a long period of time and the two that are inside already should suffer the same fate when they leave prison.

I'm by no means a violent person but these men are violent ****holes with no respect for human life, why should they share airspace with the rest of us??

I can't argue with your sentiments at all Russ - these guys are just predators in our midst with no thought for human life as well as not having the same thought processes as normal people so you can't rationalise what they're likely to do.

A subpoena could be issued to bring her to court but it's unlikely to happen as treating a key witness as hostile isn't the best way to conduct a case, especially when that person is the victim/complainant.

The Civic was used in a £100K armed robbery a few days later. I don't know what evidence the police have against the guy for that offence - probably little if any as they're so keen to make a case out of the car jacking, or link the car jacking to the robbery.

If it was just me with only myself to think about I'd give evidence against the scrote on principle but putting other members of your family at risk is another matter.

Really hate reading this story.

I feel that justice should be done. as having people like this around will only wreack somebodies elses life.

Is moving an option?

This is the bit that sounds strange to me - it just doesnt seem right.

Well I dunno, but she uses the same route every day so it's entirely feasible that they've checked video footage from static cameras and there are a lot of those about these days that we don't notice as we're driving around.

What seems wrong with it?

Scumbags find a car they would like. Follow the occupant home. Repeat a couple of times to establish whether a usual pattern. Then strike?

CT - glad two are inside, and the third one is dead - sounds like no loss there. As for the dilemma you face........ what do the police suggest? If she doesn't give evidence, what is his liklihood of "going down"
