Car front side window sun shade regulations?

What if the film only blocked 30% of the light coming through? Over the whole window there'd still be 70% coming through then.

Thank you for the clarification.

Regarding UV filtering. I had noticed yesterday my UV reactive glasses (automatic darkening prescription glasses) changed colour slightly when the sun is shining through the side window. So I guess side windows are partially UV filtered.

Yeah so you get a light tint that still allows 70% through, you can get tints in more than one variation.
I had my last car tinted including front windows with a light tint and it makes a huge difference. Car was cooler in summer, warmer in winter with added benefit of extra uv protection all round

May I ask how much did it cost you for very light tint with 100% UV protection?
 
I dount you would get 100% llumar only quotes at 99% but near as damn it. I had the whole car done and IIRC it was £140. You can do it yourself BUT A) its not easy (i can install vinyl graphics, floodcoating, signage etc) but tint is much harder especially on curves like the rear screen and B) the pros can do it so much quicker and it looks so much better!!!

I would recommend going to a good tint company who will sell you what is legal for your front windows, some will just sell you what you want legal or not
