hi guys,

been looking around for some flashes, or constant light sources.

what i'd really like to know is how you power them, if your not inside? if your out on a hillside etc.?! do they come with batteries? or how do others power them?

cheers

If you get a hotshoe flash they usually take four AA batteries, it's big studio lights that need mains power.

Lencarta Safari is a studio light set that will run on batteries.... designed for proper lighting in out the way location shoots - really good, really expensive...

Enlinchrom Ranger is pretty decent not hugely expensive compared to Profoto gear. Tbh you need BIG modifiers and BIG lights if you're working during the day, I find my 430EX's are only really workable for a short period at dusk and dawn, can still get some fantastic results with them however.

proper flashes?? very heavy and expensive (£1000+) battery

on the cheap? as I would do..
YN flash, 100 quid, compatible battery pack, £20
4 x batteries and 8 x AA batteries (eneloop??) and a charger, 20 quid I think.
tripod £?? for each and softbox/brolly,

tent/ground pegs to hold it in place incase the wind picks up...priceless
