Is time for me to change car.

I always change my car every 2 years; has always been the way with me and always been happy with it. I like cars and as a result spend a fair amount of money on them.

I usually know which car I want but this time I am a bit stuck so looking for some comments from people who may have the car(s) I am looking to get.

I really cannot decide between the two I have in my mind. I have test driven both and still not sure.

Audi RS4 or BMW M5 - Both 2007 cars.

The Audi is a lovely car and road holding is superb. The BMW is also very good and a bit more refined.

Both cars have plenty of power and the delivery is smooth.

The BMW has more toys for sure but it is a bit much in some ways to be honest.

Anyone who has owned one of these give me some long term owning comments?

Thanks in advance.

I used to have a A8 4.2 Quattro, lovely car but in the winter 8mpg was easily achieved on short runs, it'd be cheaper to go by limo :D

Well I got the M5 and have been followed by the police at least twice since since I got it.

Reminds me of my youth when I drove an Escort RS Turbo : )

Not sure why they are following me now but hopefully they will leave me alone sooner rather than later. You can guarantee if someone was to steal it then would not follow them!! Am a bit baffled to be honest I mean these kind of cars are pretty much un stealable without the keys.

Did you get the car HPI'd?

It might have been stopped before by the police and flagging up on there system now when they see you. They will follow you while they check the details out more than likely.

How you getting on with it anyway?

You'd be surprised too about cars getting nicked these days, my old MD's M5 and GTR went missing over night without the keys!!

Yes the car was HPI checked and sourced from a BMW dealer so all good there.

The car is very nice, full of toys which I still need to learn to use and some which to be honest I will probably never use - Like the launch control start; don't really need that for going to Tesco's!

I guess cars like this can be stolen, put on back of trailer etc but well is just the way of it I guess. Have had nice cars for a while now and touch wood never had any issues. I do miss my Subaru but am just getting too old for a car like that now ; need a bit more refinement in my old age; Jeez that sounds bad I am only 35!

If you find police an issue, speak to the local station and see if your car is 'flagged'.

My mate's wife found herself to be 'followed' almost daily in her TT and was pulled over several times for no apparent reason.

She wrote in and complained and it turned out that it had been placed on their system for some reason I cannot recall and this was the resulting action. Since then though it has been 'un-flagged' and she no longer had this issue!

If you can believe Clarkson he claims the M5 and M3 and two of the best cars ever..

I've never had an Audi but I did have an BMW 3 series Alpina ( left hooker) years ago which I loved..
Close call either way I think.

Maybe you don't look like an M5 driver and they're running a check while they follow you? I'm not sure if that is an insult or a compliment, mind! :D

Old at 35 :cuckoo: I've got an A6 Quattro but have a '92 GT4 being restored at the moment, never too old

I still dream of a white import ST185, lowered on white Compomotove MOs or OZ Cronos. Can't justify the price tag though, I'm still pyaing off the 6k of debt the last ST182 swallowed in constant falling apart!

Maybe they follow you because there's traffic in the outside lane and they don't want to undertake ... :whistling:

It might be that it is still shown registered to the previous keeper (who may live miles away) or shown 'In Trade' still. They will have been there just long enough to check the insurance and maybe a couple of other things. It's a desirable car often stolen in key burglaries.
