Car adapter for Canon charger

I see that some third-party camera battery chargers available from the likes of eBay seem to come with a 12V car input lead as well as a mains lead. My Canon LC-E8E (for LP-E8 batteries) came with a mains input lead only. Does anyone know whether a car adapter is available for these chargers, or whether it would take a simple 12V DC input in place of the 24V AC (as the third party ones seem to do)?

why not just buy an inverter to plug into the car's 12v socket and get a 240v supply that way?

It's a thought - certainly more generally useful. A bit of overkill if a simple cigar-lighter -> euro plug lead would do though.

I got 6 or 7 LP-E8 3rd party batteries from ebay and decided to get an extra charger to help charge them all up quicker. I bought one off either ebay or amazon (can't remember which) and that came with an extra lead with a car adapter on it. I think I only ever used it once though, I'll see if I can find it and if I can I'll PM you and you can have it if you want it.

I've since got a double socket inverter for the car so I can charge my LP-E6 and the wifes LP-E8 batteries at the same time if neccessary.

Very kind of you to offer, but I think I'm warming to the idea of an inverter myself. Which one did you go for?

Maplins sell some, but I went for a simple alternative charger that had a mains or a 12v input. If I'm honest, I've never used the car charger part.

I read some scare stories about 3rd party chargers potentially toasting genuine batteries. Don't know what the real risk is but I wouldn't want to faff with having one charger for genuines, another for 3rd parties. Like you, I might never actually need to charge in the car in practice.

The fact that the cheapos seem to have simple interchangeable 12V cigar-lighter & 13A leads made me wonder if the Canon original charger would also take a simple 12V input too, but it doesn't indicate that on the unit itself.
