Hi, I was using Elements 5 with my D60 and then upped to a D90. I found Elements 5 would not work with the D90 raw files(I looked for the plug in and it said a D90 needed Elements 6 or above). As I had a trial version of Capture NX2 with the D90 I have been using this.
The trial is coming to an end and I'm torn between buying Elements 7 or the Capture NX2.
Any pros and cons for either would be appreciated, I don't do much PP at the moment.

Thanks David

I think Elements is a better all round tool but specifically of editing Nikon RAW images, it's hard to beat Capture NX2 for its output. It's probably not as user friendly as Elements - it's a little quirky to say the least but it does do a cracking job once you get your head round the interface. I really like it now and can get stuff done pretty quickly.

Dunno about elements, but I always find without exception, Nikon software makes the very best final product out of NEF's.
If there are no tools in elements that you miss in NX, and your processing is pretty exclusive to NEF, its gotta be NX.

NX for NEF, no arguement.

The simplicity of the way it works is a far cry form any of the photoshop arrangements.
There is a good book that is only a few quid on Capture NX and there are video tutorials available from Nikon too, free to watch.

The beauty of NX is the WAY it it does the editing. Instead of altering the image you are working on, all you do is maintain a notepad of instructions for the editing you have done. So instead of altering an image, NX keeps the list of editing instructions, then applies them when you do a save as. The original is untouched. The new file simply is the same as the old one with a list of instructions alongside it. You do not lose any of your original file information.

The actual editing is very fast too. I would get NX2 though, rather than NX - there are some very useful enhancements in the new version. For speed of workflow it is great.

Thanks for the replies I'll go for the NX2 when the trial runs out.
