I had an email from Phase One yesterday with a half price offer on Capture One v5 so I've downloaded the 30 trial to see what it offers.

I had a 5 minute delve into it last night and very early findings suggest it doesn't really offer anything new but a proper scout round it may prove otherwise.

Has anyone used Capture One and what do they think of it in terms of what it can accomplish compared to other PP packages and how it stores your files? (I use Aperture for most things at the moment and part of its attraction is that it's library system is wonderfully user friendly)

I tried it for a few week's and watched all the video's and I just could not get on with it and the workflow, so I'v gone back to Lightroom 3..;)

Although I have Lightroom 3, I use Capture One 5 most of the time simply because I have a preference for the way it converts my raw files. The newest things in the Standard CO5 is the colour editor where you can tweek individual colours, the focus finder and a clarity slider as well a improved noise reduction logarithims and sharpening compared to CO4.

As to storing images Capture One is not a DAM program as such and really needs to be used with a separate DAM program like EM2 (which they have just taken over), which I also have and it works quite well. But as stated that's my preference and will not suit everyone.

Having a all in one application is fine if that's what your happy with, but with my Dam program I can send a raw file to any of the raw convertors I own (including LR) with one click of the mouse. Try sending a raw file from LR or Apertures library straight to another raw processor. ;)
