Hi all :wave:

Anyone been to Cape Wrath (north west Scotland) It looks a stunning place but a little difficult to get to. Any suggestions for photo opps around the area would be much appreciated.

I'm hoping to go first week of August
 
Not too far south of Cape Wrath is Sandwood Bay. Click here for a GIS;) The lighthouse itself is quite photogenic, as is Kervaig bothy, down by the shore.

As long as you realise that you WILL have to walk a fair bit, you'll find no shortage of photo ops:)
 
Durness, not far east of there is my favourite place in the world, the whole north coast of Scotland has magnificent views.
 
Thanks for the replies :clap::clap: Walking's not an issue as that's why I'm going, hoping to tour the Highlands again (cost of diesel permitting ;)) but never been to Cape Wrath before

i've not been, but it's on the list of places to go for me. if you are going for the day and are looking for someone to share the diesel costs with, i'm on hols then and am based in inverness......

Hi nowler

I'll be travelling from Altnaharra or at least near there :) Grummore (Loch Naver) so it's quite a bit north of Inverness! nothing sorted as yet but working on it. It's part of a two week Highlands photo/ camping break :D if you are interested let me know and I'll pm the details when it's sorted

If travelling from Loch Naver you will go round Loch Eribol to get to Durness and a number of cliffs and inlets on the way. Plenty there to snap at.

Be sure to eat at Mackays Hotel and have a chocolate and coffe at Cocoa Mountain when on the to Balnakyle beach and Farrad head which an absolute must for big dunes on one side and scary cliffs on the other. :thumbs:

There's a wee hotel in Melness called the Graggan proprietor is a Mr Hamish Mckay an old family friend,the food there is unbelievable , lovely place to stay .Don't go on first impressions ,it doesn't look like much from the outside ,but it MORE than makes up for it once your inside .Great atmosphere and as i already mentioned amazing food ,the surrounding area is to die for .The missus and were there for a couple of days and i managed to shoot well over 2,000 pics.the whole of the North coast is an amazing place with a lot of history to boot.:thumbs:
