Trying to load RAW files from a CF card to my PC. In Elements 11 when I try to get pics from 'Camera or Card Reader' I get an error message 'Adobe Downloader has encountered a problem blah blah blah. Error message c0000005 and won't let me access the pictures. When I try to import into Lightroom it just stops working. I can't even see the CF card in My Computer. It's all been working fine til I tried it today. Also tried several CF cards so it's not them. Any suggestions. I'm running Windows 7 - 64.

If you are using a card reader, try direct from the camera [if you have the appropriate cable], card readers seem to go pear shaped at the drop of a hat.

Yeh, I'll give that a go. I've tried both USB and the built in reader.

Yeh, now tried all 3 options. Same result.

Can you move them in windows explorer?

Meh, this is where it gets teknicul. Will need one of our techies to solve I suspect but my first thought would be is the computer recognizing anything else plugged in via USB ports, hard drives, printers, etc?
Yeh, just plugged in my phone and MP3 player and they're not showing either.

Edit - The phone is showing.

Now got the MP£ player working too, changer the USP lead so one must be faulty. The CF card still ain't working.

This sounds like a windows system error problem, with that error code all I would try is a system restore first.....
I tried a System Restore but there are no restore points to go back to. I know Windows is supposed to create them every now and then but there are none. I can only create one as of now and obviously that's no good.

Sorry if i have missed it but have you tried a different USB socket on the computer

Ok ,can you check your device manager and maybe try and update some drivers ,ie graphics etc as that error code in my opinion is normally windows based, could be wrong though as its a few years since I dealt with building PCs

Plug the reader in and navigate to:-
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers
Click on Device Manager
Go down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and click the > to the left of it.
Do you see any entry with a yellow ! on it?

Right, I've checked all the drivers for the various portable drives as Den suggested and they are all up to date. I've also updated my graphics card to it's latest driver. The PC now recognises the card reader and I can see pics on CF cards other than the one I used today. It now recognises the one I used today and the fact it has 64 files on it but doesn't show the pictures although they do show in camera. All it shows is 64 boxes where the images should be but they are greyed out with a timer on them. Strange.

I know you have not actually deleted your files on the CF card but could it be worth trying a free CF card recovery programme as it appears that windows (system) is now recognising the CF card, clutching at straws but could be worth a try at some point.

FFS. Just tried again and everything is working as normal in both PSE 11 and LR5. No bloody idea what was going on.

Thanks everybody for your tips and advice, very much appreciated (even you Den. Probably your advice that fixed it;)).

Please don`t bother, nearly all your shots are not worth the effort anyway.
