Cant seem to open the "CR2" Raw files

i have just got a new camera "40D"

used to use 350D and always was able to just click the raw files photoshop would open and would just be able to edit etc

but now i cant i get this message once photoshop loads etc

"Could not complete your request because it is the not the right kind of document"

only thing thats changed is the camera?

any ideas?
 
What version of Photoshop is it you have? as it may not be compatible, or you may need to update your camera raw.
 
i have CS3

ive gone onto the canon website and downloaded "raw update 1.6"

but still no joy
 
yea i could prob do that but im sure RAW is more free to edit then jpeg etc cos i could just shoot in jpeg etc

hopefully it will be an easy fix
 
I had exactly the same problem, if its photoshop CS2 or before, it isnt compatible. You need to go to the Adobe site and download a convertor which outputs files CS2 can see and doesn't degrade quality. Or you can output to Tiff files from Canon DPP but they are pretty big files...
