This query is sort of linked to this thread - https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/cant-see-a-hard-drive.646341/

The PC is running fine and I can now see the D drive It was littered with loads of unimportant files so I decided I would format it and as expected this resulted in a nice empty D drive

I am the administrator on the PC and

I can create folders on the D,
I can copy files to anywhere on the D, and
I have installed OpenOffice in a folder on the D drive.

However, I cannot install Firefox on the D drive. When I try to install it to this drive I get the following message "You don't have access to the installation directory"

I can't work out why this is happening, as Admin I have full control of the drive, so any suggestions for a solution will gratefully received.

Thanks

Dave

Thanks. I tried right clicking and running as administrator, Andy, but got the same message. Yes, Neil I am the owner of the folder.

When I tried to install Firefox the installer wanted to install it in C:\Program Files(x86)\Mozilla...

I changed the drive letter to D and assumed, because the D drive had then no folders, the installer would say, "D:\Program Files(x86)\Mozilla... does not exist, do you want to create it?", which I am fairly sure I have seen before.

I have now managed to get Firefox on to the D drive. On the D I created a folder called Programs. I then changed the installer's destination folder from C:\Program Files(x86)\Mozill... to D:\Programs and Firefox installed in this folder with no problems.

I don't understand the initial problem and thanks for the replies.

Firstly why did you want to install to the D drive and secondly you could have used firefox portable which does not install itself and you can also copy it from PC to PC and retain all the features etc you set up.

Thanks Peter, I had not heard of Firefox portable. The C drive is fairly small so I put most things, other than the OS, on the D drive.

If the OS gets corrupted (which it did in the last few days) and I need to reinstall it no other program will be affected.
