The price you can buy medium format gear for on ebay now is very tempting, but be sure you'd actually use the thing. ;)

I used a Mamiya med format SLR for quite a while and the quality of the results is self evident. Compared to a DSLR though, they're awkward to hold, particularly for anything action oriented. You really need a speed grip and a pentaprism housing to get the thing up to eye level.

For plonking on a tripod and doing weddings /portraits though, they still take a lot of beating.

That Bronica was an absolute steal for that money!

I had one of those a few years ago.
I had the speed grip, AE prism finder, poloroid back etc....

I sold it to help fund my first digi body, after a well known processing lab
lost one of my negatives (this realy annoyed me).

Anyway its a great camera if your going to use it.

There's one here @ £100 with the grip and prism, finishes within the hour.

had that on watching since it came on Matt. ;) In truth I think it's a passing phase. I always wanted one when I was younger but could never afford it. Now I can afford it I'm not sure if it's just nostalgia kicking in.

A 1D variant is a much more attractive option long term ;)

I thinik it would be a really worth while buy. You'd learn more in a month shooting slides on a fully manual MF camera than in a year shooting to a CF card.

Somthing like a brony SQB would be a better bet I reckon, stay away form metered prisims and speed grips and go for something that makes you slow right down and consider every aspect of each shot.

If you have mastery of getting exposures placed right on slide film it will make getting the histogram where you need it much more like second nature and you'd have a better understanding of things that you probably do instinctivley right now.

... and in a month or two if you've got everything out of it that you think you will and feel it's going to end up just gathering dust, get it back on fleabay and sell it on again.

What's the cost of films and processing on one of these monsters?
