Yes
As title really. I put a CD in the Mac earlier and now it won't eject. I have tried clicking eject in Finder, right clicking on the CD on the desktop and pressing the eject button on the keyboard, all without success. I went to reboot and had to do a forced reboot and I still can't eject it. Anyone any ideas?

either the eject key or right click on the cd symbol on the desktop and select eject

Reboot it, and as soon as it starts loading, hold down the mouse button... don't stop until it ejects (or loads OSX in which case you missed the right timing ;)) Works on my macbook!

Or, hold down the option key on the keyboard, again immediately at start up and you should get a boot menu. Let go of option and try pressing the eject :)

Otherwise it'll need to be a manual job!

Marc, in Finder select Help and type Eject in - that gives you all the options.

Do a restart and either do the holding down the mouse throughout (as already suggested) or open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder), select the disc, and choose File > Eject.

Select Finder or click the blank screen - It's on the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Is there a little hole somewhere to manually/mechanically eject the device's tray, if there is it's usually acheived by poking a straightened out paper clip in there. If not, (presuming it's a lappy), there'll be a screw holding the device in the body that's seen when looking underneath the laptop. Un-do that, draw out the device and you'll then see the hole as described previousley

Did you try dragging the CD icon into the trash?? Sometimes i have to do that when the eject button does nothing. Hope you get it sorted. Don't take tweezers to it!! lol.

It's an imac with a slot loader so no tray. :(

happened to my macbook left it in for repair and there is a metal pin that was bend over disc , common problem also i was told :(

thou mine was under warrently so was replaced but keep turning the hard eject ie when it boots to eject the disc

Type 'Eject firmware' into Finder Help

Still brings up the same solutions Rob.

I'd be inclined to create a new account and log into that to see if you can eject it from there.

How do I do that?

Mine's only a few months old so it looks like it may have to be repaired.

How do I do that?

System Prefs (gears icon in dock)> Accounts (under system heading)

If the padlock in the bottom left of the window is locked, then click it.
Then click the (+) button to add an account.

Hmmm, didn't think it would, but at least now you know how to add new users.
If it comes to it, Apple will sort it without fuss. If none of the suggestions have worked then it's starting to look like a physical problem somewhere.

what mac is it ?

Thanks Merv. The CD icon has reappeared but it still won't eject. I ried actually opening it but that appears to have crashed Finder.

Imac 24" (Bought in September)

Maybe you could try
> go menu at the top of the screen
> utilities
> disk utilities app

Then select the disk from the left hand column (hoping it's there!) and try clicking the eject button.

Though it sounds like it may be mechanical if that doesn't work.

Hmmm, rather odd. Just got up and noticed that the CD icon is back (It had disappeared just before I went to bed). I decided at one las futile attempt to eject the disk and this time a message came up saying the he disk couldn't be ejected as it was being used by a programme, then immediately another message popped up saying Disk Ejected and out it popped. Think I might give apple a ring anyway just to see what they say.

Thanks again all for the late night vigil. :D

When you said it was a CD, did you mean it was a music CD? If so, what were you doing with it (listening to it/importing it to iTunes etc?)
