Can't decide between 60D and the D7000!

I think 60D is not a match to the D7000. D7000 is rather on level with Canon 7D. Me- myself,I was between the 7D & D7000 when buying. It was my first DSLR I was going to buy. The Canon felt better in hand, Nikon scared me with the amount of buttons. At the end went for the D7000 and I am soo happy. The D7000 has got more buttons on the body, where canon has got them hidden in the menu.
I must say that it is very handy when you try to take pics quickly and need to change settings. You will get used to it very quickly and once you conquere all the features, you will be happy too, that you dont have to trough that menu.
NIKON NIKON NIKON !!

I barely ever have to access menus on my 40D.
As on the 7D, all the regularly altered options are on external buttons, just some of them double up as functions are adjusted on two dials (the line of 3 buttons along the top next to the LCD doubles up to actually alter 6 functions).
I'm not slating the D7000, but I've had a look at one and there is barely anything external that isn't external on the 7D (and vice versa).

Which layout is better depends entirely on the personal preference of the user in question, but there is definitely no notable differences in the amount of external control available between those two bodies.

....the 7000 is not on a par with the 7D though the owners may like to think so....

Serious question. What does the 7D have that the D7000 doesn't? I've compared specs and they're pretty similar. Amazing to see that the D7000 is over £200 cheaper than the 7D.

Out of the D7000 and the 60D, I'd go for the D7000 every day of the week especially at similar prices to each other (Camera Price Buster saying the 60D available at £758 with the D7000 best priced £777). When I handled one, the only thing I didn't like about the D7000 was the grip. It just felt a bit too 'square' and didn't feel natural in my hand.

The sensor in the D7000 would always swing it for me over the 60D.

Oh dont get me wrong, as I have already said I HAD a Canon system when my body was stolen, my first and very missed to this day camera was a Nikon F Photomic FTn I bought new, and to my thinking in camera feel and design has never been surpassed, before that I had a Nikkormat FTn, a lovely camera.

Had I not already had the system, would I have bought Canon over Nikon, I can not say, but in all honesty, I could financially go out tomorrow and cash buy a 1D Mk 1V, do I NEED it, no, want perhaps, am I happy with the 60D my insurance company replaced the 10D with yes 100%

Went into Jessops today, and had a proper play with the D7000.

I liked it, a lot. I like the autofocus system in particular and it is quite comfortable in my hand. Nice and easy to change drive mode and select focus points which is something I will do a lot.
I then picked up the 60D again, and whilst I still like it a lot I did just about prefer the D7000. The 60D felt a bit more clunky to use, quite literally when the shutter release was pressed!

The only downside is that both of them made my hand ache a bit, but I put that down to not being used to the weight of either camera as my bridge camera is light in comparison.

Looks like it'll be the D7000, bearing in mind Jessops 30 day return policy.

you will be a happy man on the D7000. With the grip it make the camera so easy to use and feels good as well.

Interesting to note, according to specs, the D7000 is the smaller body yet weighs more than the 60D!

I'm definitely considering the D7000 for my next camera. Did a lot of research yesterday and the only 'negative' were reports of it over exposing quite often. Other's have said it isn't a problem though.

For what it is, the D7000 looks like a lot of camera for under £800.

That over expose problem you talking about only for user that got use to the older nikon camera, i.e from D90, D5000, D3000 etc ....

My friend transfer from canon to D7000 and he said he have no problem, but for me i have expose problem which i never had on my D5000.

Is matter of getting use to the camera and how the metering work on the camera. I get spot on images everytime now after using it for some time now.

im in the same pickle as to which to buy but when it comes to handling im the opposite, i prefer the feel of the nikon, im going to have one final play with them at work tommorrow.....right now im leaning more towards the nikon, body only and, buying the 18-200 lens to go with.

Welcome to the forum Williamsboldon.

Looks like there will be two more owners of D7000's very soon! Nikon really are onto a winner with this camera. It's so popular already, and it's not even been out a year yet.

thanks

yeah its very popular at work, i was looking at the canon for a short while but started to like the nikon more and more when picking it up and im thinking it has to be the D7000, i think the only canon i'd pick over the nikon would be the 7D but it doesnt really warrant the extra money, IMO that is
