I hope somebody can help, I'm so frustrated.

I have a 2TB WD My Book Live NAS plugged into my BT WFi Hub. I was forced to reinstall my operating system into my laptop due to a glitch.

I can't now access it, when I attempt to map it to a network drive I always get the following error message: -

I know there isn't anything fundamentally wrong with the network, external drive, as I have a netbook set up to connect to the external drive and that
works perfectly.

My gut feel is it isn't much, a setting of some sort in the Network setup, but it's so frustrating.

Any help very much appreciated.

Yes Chris, I did. But I'm not asked for a password anywhere.

Have you checked that you laptop and the nas box are on the same workgroup?

I'd guess you have a permission problem.
I have a wdMyCloud and that gets a bit touchy if trying to logon as a different user even though I give the correct name/ password.
If you have access from a different machine, try changing access rights to public and see if you can get in.

Redsnappa, the honest answer is - I dont know, I know about a homegroup ie a local network, but I don't know what a workgroup is.

Peter, where and how do I do that? Going beyond the limits of my PC knowledge now!

Should be in the wd dashboard.
Look at the shares.
Each share will have user access specified or public.

Many thanks Peter,

Re-setup my mybook as per the user manual, I didn't have a public "setting" created one and now all is fine and dandy.

Thanks again Peter

Remember that public means anyone on your network can access and delete in public.
I put my photos in a folder where everyone can view but not write or delete
