Hi all, has anybody used the Canon ST-E2 IR transmitter?? If so, does it only work with the 550EX? I presume it afixes to the body via hotshoe slideon...am I right? (haven't actually seen one in person yet!) Is it able to fire more than one Speedlite ...if so, do they have to be the same model number (i.e. 430 & 580EX's)... thanxxx!

The ST-E2 works with the 430ex 550ex 580ex mk1 & 2. And yes you can mix and match which ones you want to use. If I remember rightly you can use up to 3 different flashes with the ST-E2 attached to your camera.

I use one, and like it a lot, particularly the way you can vary the ratio between two flashguns.

The instructions take a bit of reading, but worth the effort. Good luck with your shots!!

How bright is the AF Assist beam, Les?

I'm looking at getting something like this to help focus during gig photography, but it would have to be pretty damn inconspicuous/insignificant so as to not annoy the band/crowd.

I won't be using a flash with it, just as AF Assist.

No, I don't mean how far away does it work from I mean how visible is it to the person on the receiving end :p

Golly gosh, I don't know, I'll have to try it and see?

Just checked it, and it's quite bright (double red light), and if it was the only light in the room, I think could be distracting. If one of many (strobes etc), then it would probably be OK.
I hope I haven't muddied the water further for you :(

didn't know it could do that, time to read the manual :)

my my, lots to read! what about a dual flash bracket...anybody know where I could get one (pref. in the UK!), the sort that have two flashguns mounted atop to have double power when firing into a brolly.... thanxxx!

Hrmpf, whilst I'm annoyed about it - I'm very glad that you've told me as I won't waste my money on it :)
Thanks a lot (sincerely :p)
