Canons new low light FF sensor.

If only someone would develop a sensor like that with over 30MP resolution... I'd be there like a shot.. no matter who makes it.

2MP (or thereabouts) at the moment but early days.

There will be plenty of development, it's going to be a money spinner for them even in its present size. I see they intend launching at a security show, I presume that as its first big market.

Imaging CCTV that films in almost total darkness?

footage recorded in a room illuminated only by the light from burning incense sticks (approximately 0.05–0.01 lux)

Not good for stills and only 2mp

I think you are missing the point.

You are probably correct in your statement with current development but with 2mp your video is going to be garbage too!.

Sensor development in this area is going to take a while but I'm sure they will crack the technology in the not too distant future.

Doesn't mean it's not potentially good sensor development.

don't see how - all they have basically done is made a 2mp FF sensor = huge photosites. nothing specifically fancy about that. The other thing is that it won't have the colour fidelity of sensor with more pixels. This is purely done for low light video can't really see any benifit of the technology for stills cameras unless the electronics & software associated the sensor can be applied to a still camera.

Whether this particular development is going down the correct avenue or not I would be amazed if in 10 years time we don't have sensors that give pretty much noise free images at levels like ISO 52428800 and more.

When did I ever say anything about stills?

It's a good sensor. Saying it's not just because it's not 16mp seems a bit ignorant. That's like a large format photographer coming along to a D4 saying it has a rubbish sensor, which obviously is not it just doesn't meet his needs.
