Canons New 24-70 ii and a full frame upgrade

Whilst I am not a Canon user, you should be wise to know that the 5DmkII doesn't even have an onboard flash !! so your option to use it when the going gets too dark even for the £2k L lens would be limited and your budget stretched to breaking having to buy a speedlight !!

I started off with a 500d, with the 24-70 L..went round doing free shoots to build my portfolio and then eventually bought the 5d mark ii... The camera is fantastic and I've never looked back... Im currently doing mainly Asian weddings and have a lot of bookings this year and next.... If your composition is good then go for it I say....

Thanks for that, I think I will hold off a little while as others have advised, I still have a lot to learn yet. Cheers for the reply.

I started off with a 550D and kit lenses (18-55 IS and 75-300 MkIII which was next to useless) and it wasn't until I bought some good lenses that the camera really showed what it could do. I wanted to shoot aircraft and after the 75-300 I got a Tamron 28-300 VC which was an improvement on IQ, but not as good as I wanted. When I could afford to I got a Canon 100-400 IS L and the IQ difference was amazing. I also got a 100 2.8 L macro, which I still love shooting with, and I'm always surprized by it's clarity. I've now got a 5D3 and TBH the IQ is better than the 550D and the keeper rate is a lot higher, but I've still got the 550D tucked away for a spare.

I would certainly say that I agree with you in relation to the lenses, I have recently bought the 24-105L, it is a joy to use, it has certainly made a difference on my 550D, although I had not thought that initially. I am enjoying learning to use flash as well. How much difference would a full frame really make to the images in terms of IQ? Is it really worth the extra outlay in cost? As most advise, it is better to invest in lenses and then wait for a depreciation in the camera. Good quality lenses do tend to hold onto their value.
