Hi,

new to these forums and I am looking at purchasing my first film camera in a long time!

I want to do mainly street and general photography and like the idea of a rangefinder. I was wondering if anybody had any experience of the above and their views on it - there looks like there are some good buys on Ebay.

Thanks.

I had one, I don't know all of the variations but mine had a 45mm f1.7 lens. It worked fine and people thought it looked lovely and the only criticism I have is that it felt very cheaply made next to my Bessa R.

Hi Doug,

I recently bought a QL17 Giii as Carl says. I am fairly new to photography (about a year), but I quite like the Canonet. Only put one roll of portra 160 though it, but got some good results. Quality wise, its on par with a Canon A1, nicer in my opinion. I paid a bit more for a black version, but some good prices for the silver variants. Leaf shutter is smooth and discrete ideal for candid street scenes.

Here's a couple images from my first roll.

Bloody hipsters ruining the view.....:LOL::LOL:

I had one for a while, and got some nice photos with it. Excellent lens. It's got a nice weight, and has a meter just by the lens, within the filter thread. It was my first rangefinder, and I sold it because I wasn't very comfortable with the RF approach. Later I did get a Bessa R3A; the QL may be slightly less well built (though I don't remember any feeling of low quality), but it is a much more affordable proposition... (there is also a QL19, which I think might be slightly larger and heavier with a 1.9 aperture lens).

My complaint with the build was some slightly sharp edges which although never cut me felt like they might. I gave mine to my niece who always thought it was a lovely camera.

Thank you all for the replies - I do like the black version!
