Hi,

I'm currently using a Sigma 28-300 lens for my zoom shots. I love the ability to get really up close on shots whilst also retaining a degree of wide-angle capability. However, the shots get quite fuzzy when zoomed in and I'm thinking of upgrading. I'm not sure I have the money for a Canon EF 28-300, which would be ideal.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Pav

Canon 70-300 IS USM is well within budget and a cracking lens :D

I would recommend a 2nd hand Canon EF 70-200mm f4L USM and Canon Canon EF 1.4x Converter and save for a good Canon EF 17-40mm f4L USM

Like most people new to DSLR's on a budget, you gone down the route of 1 lens for all purposes and found all its weaknesses... Personally the canon 28-300mm isn't a great L series lens either, it suffers from the same problems your sigma suffers from and personally wouldn't recommend it.

Unfortunately as suggested above, you really need 2 lenses to cover that job. These hyperzooms are very affordable, small, lightweight (apart from the canon) and potentially offer everything on the plate, however deliver very little in real terms.

The canon 70-200mm f4 a great lens, a step up in quality and performance from the 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM also mentioned, but both are great lenses for their price range.

The 17-40mm f4 another good recommendation for you wide angle capability, don't dismiss the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 another good contender, but the 2 lenses for the price of 1 doesn't exist, the SLR is an interchangeable lens system, so it requires the correct lens for the job and in this case a wide angle lens and a zoom.
