Canon wired remote woes

A few months back I bought a remote for my 30d. It was one of these multi-function, no brand, timelapse things from eBay that you see for about £10 £15. It worked great, but after not too much use the wire ended up breaking. Whether that was my own neglect (possibly) or a weakness in the cord, I don't know.

So I went back to eBay for a replacement, found the cheapest thing possible (no intention of spending good money if it's gonna break): a simple Shoot remote with button, and button lock. Nothing fancy. But when I've tested it out I've found that the socket needs to be held in at the correct angle for it to even work :shake: I suppose you can't expect much for £4.99. Hey ho.

Feeling slightly beaten and discouraged now. What would people recommend? Bearing in mind the 30d doesn't have its own wireless receiver.

I'm an advocate for the cheap ones but it seems as with anything you can get cheap but function and cheap but crap unfortunately it seems you've found the latter...you can still get cheaper but branded triggers a good brand is the hahnel range

I've got through a few cheapo ebay cable releases, now I use the Canon one, they are a lot better built.

Have to say the Canon one fits much more securely in the output socket.

Both my daughter and I got fed up thinking the jack was in properly and then nothing happens when you try to fire the shutter

Picked our Canon ones up s/hand because over thirty quid does seem a bit steep for a switch and wire

Also have a Hahnel Giga pro wireless remote, no problems with that and has a very good range too with lots of different settings

Recently purchased this one from Amazon for my 650D...

...and it works really well. You might want to check, but I'm pretty sure it would work with your 30D

Mine - also for a 30D - came from Amazon and cost < £10. I can't remember what make it is, and I can't check because I'm in another country, but the lead fits firmly and it's been completely reliable. I just picked one that had a lot of good customer feedback.

Bought a second hand but still packaged HAHNEL from eBay. (I'm THAT cheap )

Will see how it goes.

For things like that, the cheap alternatives are sometimes the best way to go.

eBay is always a good source for triggers, but don't expect them to last long.
