Hi Guys, i am looking at getting a wide angle lens for my 500d. I am currently looking at getting a Sigma 10-20mm f3.5.

Has anyone had any experience with this lens or can recommend a different one?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Hi Dan

I've the Sigma UWA and it's a great lens and I'm very pleased with it, I've the F4-5.6 lens and I'd certainly recommend it - I did think about the F3.5 when it came out, but decided it wasn't worth the upgrade for my use...

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply. Mine would be used for mainly car events and holidays. Whats the advantages of the 3.5 and do you think its worth the extra money?

Gives you a constant F3.5 rather than F4-5.6...so if you want to shoot at wide open all the time, could be worth it, if not then...

Depends on what the difference is in price as to whether you feel it worth the extra money - I've taken indoor and outdoor shots with mine very successfully - I took these below n the flickr account for my mate who's a joiner with it...

I've taken some shots of an Audi Quattro @ Oulton Park last year and had no issues at all...

I don't know the Sigma, but I used to have the Canon 10-22 and found it to be very good. Only got rid of it as I went full frame, and now my wife has got a crop Canon she could have used it! Can pick them up second hand for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the pictures Andy. They are very clear and crisp. Second hand there is about a £150 price difference. I suppose i could go with the f4-5.6 and spend the remaining cash elsewhere.

Sounds like a good plan to me...

If you can afford the Canon 10-22 then get that one. If you can't afford it then save for a while longer, chat up a wealthy aunt or a generous bank manager, and buy the 10-22. If you still can't afford it then get the Sigma - but make sure you test it for decentering (take a pic of a wall, square on, and check that right and left sides are both in focus).
