i have a project I'm working on and that is of a remote camera for low angle photos, with the camera on a small tripod on the floor- looking up

i need a small canon fit wide angle prime lens (a zoom is too big and heavy), the problem is that canon have not made any for a while , from the shortlist i have

20mm f2.8 usm 1992
24mm f2.8 1987!!
28mm f2.8 1987!
35mm+ too wide

so the question is are these old lenses any good?
are there any third party lenses that would fit the bill?

400grams is max weight and wide aperture is not a requirement - they will be used at f5.6 or f8 and will be pre-focused so auto focus is not a requirement although quality and lightness is -

i don't really want to use a zoom even if small and light, as i want to be able to use a depth of field scale, as i will need to pre focus

happy to buy second hand - budget £1-200?

any thoughts guys?

thanks

Don't they make the Canon 20mm f/2.8 anymore? Maybe look at the Sigma 20mm F/1.8 lens

The 28/2.8 is current and well within budget.....it's a poor old tool though.

Have you considered getting hold of a 0.75x or 0.65x wide angle filter attachment and sticking it on a 50/1.8? No idea what the results would look like though.

mmmmm........... Interesting, I just asked a similar question without the detail ;) I'm considering the EF 15mm fisheye :D

20mm f2.8 yes they still make these £100-150 on fleebay - i think this may be my best option at 405 grams
sigma 20 1.8 yes I've looked at these it's 520 grams so a bit too big/heavy
- they used to do a 2.8 that would fit the bill - some were soft but if i could get a good one... - thanks

Canon bob
28 2.8 - not my best option
0.75x good idea - i had not thought of that way of doing it - i have a 50mm f1.4 - which is the sort of size / weight i was hoping to find (290gramms) - thanks

splog - yes i read your post, but i cant help (i dont want a fisheye)- add some detail - you will get more answers
