Hi guys,

Ive seen also heard about alot of people switching to Canon from Nikon.

I barely see any Nikon cameras and lenses...on the TV at sport events.

Is there anyone on the forum that has switched to Canon ?

Thanks,

Paul

Can open - worms everywhere ... Paul ;)

"runs for cover"

OOPS!!!! Obviously new here!! :boxer:

Pink Fairy who posts here, is an out and out birder, and he's just swapped from Nikon to Canon, at what must have been quite considerable expense to replace like for like. His reason for the swap was he was fed up waiting for Nikon to market a 600mm image stabilised lens, which is an enormous advantage for wildlife photography, and in many other areas too. Very remiss of Nikon to be lagging so far behind the opposition in a fiercely competitive market IMHO.

I'm an ex Nikon user and I've worshipped the marque since I was a kid- still do, but I honestly think they took their eye off the ball for a while and let Canon steal a lead. It's nice to see Nikon coming back strong with their latest range of cameras, because the day we don't have these two great brands to choose from will be a very sad day for us end users indeed. ;)

Ok Guys, I used Canon for 10 years...and I moved to Nikon !

WHY...Because the service that I was getting from Canon was rubbish !
One of the many reasons why I moved to Nikon !

Thanks,

Paul

I've only ever changed from Nikon to another Nikon...... does that count?

You'll see a lot of sports togs using Canon largely because of the phenomenal frame-rate on the 1Dmk2n I think. 8fps is not to be sniffed at - it's certainly the kit of choice for a ot of guys shooting speedway, and the main reason for me buying the 30D I've got over, say, a 350D, is because of its 5fps rate.

I've change from Fuji FinePix to Canon

I'll jump in with both feet and say that for anyone buy their first Dslr it doesn't make any differents if it's a Canon or a Nikon, they are both excellent manufacturers

Yes if you look at sports TV you'll see lots of white Canon lenses, if you watch US crime TV like CSI it's all Nikon

Witch has a good point about frame rate.

I'll take this thread on a tangent- sorry. Just bought my first DSLR[ a Nikon] & will be using it in the studio tonight for the first time- batteries chaged, settings set!!!

Will post some results

woohoo!!!!!

John

Keep taking the pills Barry, They do work eventually mate.. ....:D

I bought Nikon D50 because it was cheaper!........and it would do the same job for me as a Canon...

I'm pleased with the results so far...

Canon, Nikon blah blah blah. Real men shoot Konica Minolta. You know it, I know it, even the mods know it because they're too afraid to make an "I love Konica Minolta " smiley.:bat: :boxer:

The D2Hs shoots 8 fps and coupled with the 200mm f2 VR its a phonomenal (spell) package. Despite the 4.1mp count the results are fantastic, more than capable of covering an A3 spread in a magazine and large newspaper print. The handling and build quality in my opinion is far better than any Canon equivelent and Nikon will always have that advantage. When I stepped to digital from a vintage Praktica MTL3 I chose Nikon. Purely on the handling, ease of use and build quality. Not only that but the lens selection is very decent, somewaht lacking in features for the telephoto range, but with Sigma producin such lovely equipment it is easily supplemented.

So really, its not jsut Canon and only Canon for sports/reportage Nikon are just as good.

King.

Can we stop the Canon v Nikon stuff please !

We all know they are both great, we do not want the usual mines better than yours flame wars that other sites suffer from !

I would like to think we are all mature enough to laugh at these comments Ian hence the smileys in each post..:)

I agree though on other forums the subject has got a little heated over this petty subject, The Canon v Nikon should be taken light heartedly as it is meant..;)

Each brand are excellent cameras as we all know..

Doesn't sound like a flame war to me.....just good honest banter...with a bit of humor thrown in...

But then I know some people can take it and some can't;)

Anyway my is better than both of them :lol

I know its light hearted at the minute but it doesnt take long for this to turn into a major argument ! have seen it before and dare say ill see it again !

Dont mind me, the xmas spirit is really kicking in now !

Bah Humbug ;)

LOL. My Dad bless him used to eye my latest SLR and tell me in all seriousness that it wouldn't take pics as good as the family Box Brownie. :D

Both manufacturers are strong and their competition keeps us togs in up-to-the-minute gear.

Quite often the lens at the front of the camera and the person behind it has a greater impact on the resultant image.

I am Canon simply because I started off that way. I see features in Nikon that I like and enjoy aspects of Canon that I could argue Nikon don't do as well but I never kid myself that the kit is more important than me or will make up for my mistakes.

Not sure I could agree with that. I'd say you'd be hard pushed to get a rizzla between canon and nikon if you took the whole of both ranges into account. Sure each has models that work better for small segments of the market but it's the competition between the two that we have to thank for the great cameras on both sides.

I use canon myself and I'm mostly very happy with it all but from what I've seen and how I use my kit, I suspect that if I was starting from scratch again now it would be with nikon.

I have been with canon right from the start and see no good reason to go to Nikon:razz:

That's the thing. If you've already bought into a brand then it becomes a HUGE thing to change because you have to start afresh. If you're starting out then you really have to look at what sort of thing you want, where you'd be using it and how, and the final decision more often than not is STILL going to come down to how an individual camera feels in your hand.

The thing is that those of us that use Canon are always going to secretly feel that our kit is superior, whilst those that use Nikon probably feel the same. (I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting for a second that they're right, but hey, humour 'em eh Canonites?!)

:p

Across the board, Canon may have the edge, but with the flagship models, I think the man has a point - I've already mentioned how some Pro Canons were dying in the 60C heat in Helmand this summer, while my D2x's soldiered on regardless. That in itself is enough for me to put up with the few niggles regarding noise (largely rectified by the firmware updates I'm happy to report...).

Well I'm a Canon man myself. Only reallly because that's what I 'fell' into when buying my DSLR. Everyone I knew was a Canon user, so it just seemed a logical thing.

Having played with Barry' D200 very briefly though, I must say I was impressed.

I think if I were to choose a brand with fresh eyes now, it would be a hard decision.

I started with a Canon because a friend of mine had one and I thought that I might be able to borrow some lenses.

I was wrong! :'(

At least I have bought my own now though.

No matter which brand you get it will become an expensive hobby.

Handling: Nikon>Canon

Glassware: Canon>Nikon

That's the only reason I changed my D100 for a 20D. The lower end 'L' series has little competition from Nikon atm.

Our local pro/ lab owner is a Nikon man and must own about 6 or 8 bodies covering models from the D100 to the D200 and a few D70 variants inbetween.

At the time I bought my first camera it just had to be the 350D because this had 8 Mp.....2 more than his D100.....

I have long since learned the error of my ways to chase megapixel. Even though there is always a lot of banter when I take my printing in to the lab we have come to respect each others choices.

The point I'm trying to make here:NEW FOLKS PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY...

Whatever you buy (Nikon/Canon) will serve you well IF you buy to serve your needs so research body models and lenses before you spend the money. Someone else also said that you buy a system in SLR cameras so be sure to do your homework very well.....It is your money:shrug:

Your eventual purchase will (I'm betting 99 to 1) most likely be the one that looks and feels good PROVIDED IT IS IN LINE WITH YOUR NEEDS.

Now just be sure it starts with C.....:D

Glad this thread didn't develop into the usual slanging match - We all know Nikon & Canon make great cameras & lenses - one might have the edge on handling & the other on glass but each individual can decide which suits their needs & look forward to many years of happiness together  ...
Spookily enough my older (& usually wiser) brother rang me from NI the other day and asked my opinion between a 400D or D80 - From his research he was convinced the 400D was for him until I asked "Have you been in to a shop to handle the cameras?" - After a prolonged silence he said "No, do you think I should?" - Anyway long story short ... after speaking to him today he has "fondled" a few cameras at his local Jessops & suprise suprise he prefers the Nikon for feel & layout of buttons etc now he's scraping the cash together & will soon join the legions of The Nikon Enlightened
Paul

I will deny ever having said this and claim that someone else posted on my name BUT I can see myself buying a Nikon eventually....

I have bought into the Canon systems far enough that I cannot really make a complete break and I do enjoy them but there are some aspects about the Nikons that I do enjoy such as the ready sharpness and the more punchy colours....

OK, OK as I admitted, in the early days I chased Mp's but lookswise the Canon just won me over immediately...and the wide range of lenses:D

If only they could make a Nikon that looks like a Canon...

Strange that.. it would be the other way round for me. Top end Nikons always looked chunky, business -like, and felt like they'd been moulded in your hand, anatomically perfect. They probably reached the pinnacle of ergonomics with the F5 - if you ever get the chance to pick one up you'll know what I mean. :)

Hi CT,Long time no speak....

(But then that's not your fault..... )

I could have bought an F5 with an SB-26 flash a few weeks back for the rand equivalent of just a tad over 100 quid!

You are quite correct, it is rather solid stuff.

Opted rather to spend said money on two decent cards though:shrug:

Could have been different if it was a 1v though:D
