Canon vs Nikon (not the usual argument)

The Dark Side Welcomes you :)

The Dark Side Welcomes you :)

well...erm..*cough*

I must extend my apologies to the Nikon boys and girls. I went into Jacobs on New Oxford Street on the way back from a client, and they had a 40D in brill condition for £400...
So I asked the guy if I could have a play..he stuck a MASSIVE bit of glass on it lol, had a play..loved it. Said to the bloke I've got £450, so he ran through a few lenses that were like £80-£130, then I said well I can borrow a zoom from someone at work, how about a 50mm prime to start me off.
So he disappears, comes back, and says well here's a brand new one for £67. I said can you do both for £450, he tinkers with his computer for a bit and says yep, can do. SOLD!
Its got a tiny scratch on the bottom, barely noticable (when I say the bottom, I mean the actual bottom of the camera so unless you're holding it upside down its invisible), apart from that its mint. 12-month warranty through Jacobs (BIG bonus), no USB cable (got plenty) and no software disc (trying to source the software now), so I'll check the actuations once the software is installed.

Needless to say though, I'm dead chuffed - I wanted a 40D all along but couldn't afford the £600+ price tag :D

You have done yourself proud, give yourself a pat on the back :)

haha ;)

39500 actuations..well its not uber low but good enough for me  still 80,500 actuations left till its rated 100,000

You need to borrow that blokes calculator

I'm the other way inclined. I've just bought an Olympus E-1 and a 14-54mm.

Fine bit of kit. Especially at £300.

You need to borrow that blokes calculator

bah its friday! 60,500 then - that affords me 20,000 a year for the next 3 years

Lol, i think he meant 60,400 didnt you ;)
I think i have about 20,000 shots on mine so far, so i got a fair few more before i hit the 100,000 mark :) Although i really should find out :P

Thats only "mean" in MBTF anyway, don't sweat it!

The 40D is so much more camera than either of the two you spoke of, you've scored a bargain, you'll be right chuffed with that.

Go buy yourself some decent glass now.... like my 300 f4 I have for sale :D

oh yea for sure I am so dead chuffed! fantastic and yea 39500 doesn't bother me..for one its got the 12-month warranty and I can always look to extend that in 12 months. (advantage of buying second hand from a shop instead of ebay :D)

haha well I've gotta save first. I've got some minolta glass on ebay finishing tomorrow, currenly at £110 combined (two of em) and I need to pay back £100 from that towards the Canon, so if they rise to say £150 that'll be some money in the bank, plus the missus promised me a lens when she got a job, which she now has, so at the end of the month when she gets paid...
