Canon USA warranty no good here?

its the 1dmkIV .. sorry not clear :)

Looks like I will be looking for a different supplier which is a shame :(

Hi Tony

Have you tried Stuart @ Digital Depot - might be worth a phone call

All Canon lenses and flashguns I sell have either UK or International warranty. Canon bodies are different, they come with Canon USA warranty valid in UK & Europe with UK invoice provided. In the event of Canon UK being difficult regards the USA warranty I will honour any warranty issue for 1 year from purchase date. I have only ever had a few problems out of many sales of Canon bodies and Canon UK have never refused any warranty repair. As for other sellers I am not sure whether their items are grey import (no Canon warranty) but all my buyers will not be let down. Please keep a note of this thread, I will not let you down. Thanks again to all TP members support. Have a go at my prize competition on here. Regards Ian.
Maybe Kerso (Ian) will see this thread and comment.

My understanding was that it was covered as long as it was backed up with a UK invoice/receipt.

I dealt with canon with regard to reapairs from a retailers point of view.

Lenses have an international warrenty cameras do not.

I suspect that canon have a list of serial numbers of all camereas supplied through their EU operations and check them regardless of if you have a 'UK receipt'

You have to remember that when canon EU set their business model that included repairs it would have been been designed ony to work within their particualar territory .

Taking on repairs from other territorys adds a cost to the business which they cannot reclaim.

Fair comment but never had Canon refuse any warranty issue whether it be a lens or body!

Thanks Ian, I had no intention to bring you into this thread to question your warranty policy, just thought that as you probably had more contact with Canon than most you would be well placed to comment.

With the attitude that you will honour a guarantee even if there are any problems with Canon UK, i'm sure you'll be selling stuff for a long time to come. I will definitly be back when funds permit.

Sorry back OT now.

Canon Elstree have the discretion if a body is bought outside the UK, to charge, however it is my understanding that they have an "unofficial" arrangement at least with bodies bought in the US that these will be repaired under warranty. I personally know of 3 cases where this has been done. Lenses are international.

I haven't read the whole thread but thought I could offer some input.

I buy all my kit from Ian Kerr therefore it is all US kit.

I have had problems with both my 1D2n and my 500 f4 which Canon UK repaired under warranty as I provided a UK receipt.

Hope this helps someone

Neil

I recently had to get a Canon 17-55mm IS lens repaired under warranty, it was originally supplied by Ian although I had purchased it secondhand from this forum. There were no warranty issues whatsoever getting it repaired by Lehmanns.

If you send a body away for repair, and a copy of uk invoice
Im not sure if they would even know where it come from.
