Canon upgrade dilemma CANON PROS LOOK

I am currently learning the techniques with a seasoned professional wedding photographer so I have 5 or so weddings expierience as a second shooter so have the ideas there and a book full of everything I saw happening that day.

I also am aware that this is a persons most treasured day and that it is extremely important to get everything 100% right and I take nothing from the pros what so ever they do an amazing job, I really just popped here to ask equipment advice and ask what would be best for both disciplines. My main target is event photography and I am doing weddings for friends mostly and going from there. I really really never meant to demean the wedding photographers in anyway but someone has asked me to do it and dont get me wrong Im very nervous, but I will remain relaxed and (eventually) have the advice as regards the equipment from members here.
Sounds like a good attitude to me! Best of luck with it.

Hi John

The problem here is people have god complexes about amatures trying to do the work of full time photographers. Best just to ignore the morons and enjoy what you do. I used to use a 40D before I bought my 5D2. I used it for weddings, magazine publications and night club work. It is a very capable camera.

p.s Wedding photographers always need to be brought down a couple of steps from their thrones

I never wanted to start a storm in a teacup ....... I just want a Canon :bonk:

If you're talking Events and Weddings then realistically you want a backup body, but as these are two separate types of photography have you considered a full frame camera (eg 5D or 5D mk2) then a 1.6x crop camera (eg 50D, 7D etc).
The better lenses/bodies mean you have a higher hit rate in difficult (or not so difficult) conditions. Sometimes you just have to invest. Photography isn't a cheap hobby.

I costed my stuff the other day for the insurance and I have about £7k's worth of kit!

Thanks there guys I have now taken delivery of my new camera ........ drum roll ........

50D I went for it as its got a good fps plus the great imaging aswell as I can calibrate lenses plus I got it with extras for a good price and less than 8k actuations.

Im happy!
