I desperately need some help deciding what I should do...

Here is my dilema - I currently have a Canon 400D, 24-70mm 2.8 L, 70-200mm 2.8 IS L, 50mm 1.8 and want to get the new 5d Mark II (for full frame). Now, the problem is that I would have to dish out around 2000 pounds for the new 5d, and my partner would kill me if I did that.

The alternative would be to return my 70-200 which I recently bought and sell my 24-70mm and swap over to Nikon and get the D700, which is 500 pounds cheapter than the new 5d. But if I did this I'd have to also buy a new lens for the D700...

Is it worth it for the full frame now? Or should I wait half a year until I have some more money for the new 5d?

P.S. I feel like I'm wasting so much glass since I'm using the 400d, since the L glass I have is all made for the full frame....

For what it's worth, I'd wait a while and go for the 5d. (and I'm a Nikon man.... Ssssh)

If you hold out for a few months, the 5D mark II price is bound to come down. You tend to see quite a fall from initial prices to the 'reatistic' prices. Look at the 50D as an example.

If it were me, I'd wait as you've got some nice glass for the Canon already.
The money you'd save would be lost in the new glass you'd have to purchase.
Plus the wife would kill me if I'd invested so much then traded it all in for another system.

I would wait. Look how much the 50D has dropped in the time since it was announced.

I have the same lenses as you and use them on a 400 and 350D. Am trying to decide between the 50D which I think will be more suited to what I want to do and the 5D Mk II which I have been waiting for for a couple of years.

As above:)

I'd stick to the 5D or the 5D MKII if you have the lenses inplace.

it is if you factor in the loss in buying new lenses vs what you'd get selling your Canon stuff...

Alternatively, consider a Canon refurb - £ 850 - £ 900 will get you a factory refurb with warranty.

Buy a used 5D for about £700-800. It will probably still be worth £500-600 when you come to sell to get the next flashy model.

Oh, and £1100 is a bargain for fullframe - it's the cheapest you'll get apart from film...

+ 1 here!

Get an Original 5d second hand, then sell it if you REALLY want a 5dmkII. Or buy a second hand 1dsMKii for about £2k and then never really have to upgrade ever again! :)
