Canon to launch a camera rain coat in July

At an estimated £40 or so this could be on my shopping list soon.

£40 for a piece of waterproof material with a couple of bits of velcro and Canon emblazoned down the side............. those marketing boys and girls earn their cash.........:eek::eek:

what does it do that a 20 for £1 roll of binbags and a roll of masking tape doesn't ?

last...

;)

Personally I was thinking £40 was pretty cheap for what it is. Look at waterproof coats as an example, a decent one will set you back around £150-300...

If the material they use is breathable, it won't suffer from a potential of condensation that a roll of bin bags would suffer from on a humid day.

ok a sheet of goretex lined matrerial it is then.........

How's about a weather-sealed camera and lens?

Does Steve own canon then, seeing as they now sell macs:)

These things need to be easy to slip on and off the camera in a hurry without faffing about, so if it achieves that, I don't think it's a bad price, but white? :cuckoo:

Let's hope they do a cammo version.

Looks like it comes with an integrated eyepiece though? Would make a lot of sense and makes the cost seem downright cheap compared to a lens hood :)

I wil be having one... been looking at aqua cover at 150-200 quid so this is a snip :)

just googled and there available all over the place in dollars

I might add I've no qualms about the camera and lens getting soaked - they regularly do - but it's when you come to finish shooting - you need to dry the gear off as well as you can before you put it in a closed bag, (and there's probably still enough moisture to cause condensation problems even then) or leave the camera on the car seat where there's the danger of it rolling off, so anything like this which keeps the camera dry is a godsend.

I'm surprised it's taken the major manufacturers this long to bring a rain hood out.

As much as I trust the weather sealing on my camera body and on the lenses I use, prevention is much better than a cure.

Looks good for £40! :) Shame about the colour though.

I bet they'll give them to pros as a bit of marketing - they'll look great along the touch line. Logo should be in red!

If it features an eyepiece as it appears to then I'd say that's a justifiable £40 to spend. Any chance of a nice Nikon version in sensible black?

Will it be compatible with all lens, or jus specific ones. What if I want to use it with say a Tokina 11-16?

I bet the HK manufacturers are busy mocking up the fakes right now. i'd wait till those hit the market, shouldnt be more than £10

With what looks to be an integrated eyepiece and quality build I thought is was a very good price. The quality would have to right, I know from my canoeing days, it's easy to get a cheap shower proof jacket, but when you want waterproof and sealed stitching then the price jumps up.

I very much doubt they do any other colour than L lens grey, as stated early, that what they want on the touchline or in the photography pit at major outdoor events,

If the material they use is breathable, it won't suffer from a potential of condensation that a roll of bin bags would suffer from on a humid day.

Can't imagine that condensation would be a problem....breathable material (eg Goretex) relies on pressure to push water vapour through minute holes in the material, which are too small to let rain drops through in the other direction.

As there's no way it could be fully sealed, it would never be possible to create enough pressure to make it breathable. And no point in using breathable material.

Does Steve own canon then, seeing as they now sell macs:)

If Steve Jobs owned Canon then the prices would be double, nobody would be allowed to make lenses for it and you'd have to give him 30% of all the money you make from your photos (after he'd approved/censored them of course).

£40 seems quite reasonable to me considering how much third party ones are. The bright white is a little bold for what Id probably be using it for most, wildlife photography etc... If they did one in a woodland camo, or even black, Id much rather that.

But for 40 quid cant argue. Even though my camera is weather sealed etc... Not all my lenses are, and it would give me a bit of peace of mind. Worth the 40.

It's the eye piece that may cause problems, as on Canon bodies they are all different sizes depending on the model range.

Surely this will be an 'L' raincoat only for 1d bodies ;)
