Having had next to no success with the radio triggers a got from eBay, i was wondering if anyone can sugest an alternative to the Canon ST-E2?

I am using a 580 EXII and a 430 EX.

i cant afford pocket wizzards and the ST-E2 is about the right price for me, i was just wondering what else is out there for the money

i know it sounds silly but the thing thats stopping my from buying the ST-E2 is tha fact its a big ugly son of a gun and looks dated... im sad i know :bonk:

so come on guys, what do you know?

I didn't think that there were alternatives...??
the 580 can transmit to the 430 can't it?
i've tried the crappy ebay things, they transmit the flash signal but there is no feedback or ETTL functionality. the st e2 is about £100 and worth the money I think

the 580 does send to the 430 but i want to control them both off camera.
i think im boing to have to bite the bullet and get one lol

I remember a pro that I met a few years back when I was at school had a st-e2 and 2 430exs, he game me a shot with them and they were excellent! I would say go for it. You can trigger a 430ex from a 580ex and you can also trigger a 430ex from a 430ex! just have to make sure you have a slave and a master :)

nope, the 430ex is only a slave as far as im aware... or am i seriously missing something

Really? Your prob bang on, but I'm able to trigger my sigma 530 super from another 530 super? I'd find it quite strange that the canon can't do that.

nope they are money grabbing gits lol. you can trigger a 580ex with another 580ex but not 430ex with another 430ex

I was on a course on Monday with a very experienced pro who won't use an ST-E2 for the reason that they are not reliable outdoors and won't allow him to shoot with a light out of sight such as in another room.

PW's are his weapon of choice but also have a look at the Elinchromes.

The ST-E2 uses IR rather than radio, so it's range is limited ,and gives probs out of doors. PW are great but you cant use ETTL with them.

The only radio units I know that work with ETTL are the Radiopoppers. They were reasonable at about £200 for a transmitter and receiver, however since the £/$ slide they are more expensive, Also I don't know if they are legal in the UK
