hi can anyone point me in the direction of downloading the full software that comes with eos 50d, ive had a look on the canon site but all i can seem to find are updaters that require the original software to be installed which i do not have as i inherited the camera with no software

have you any disks that came with the camera?

Wayne,

there are ways around it by placing some entries in the Registry. This can be googled as lots of people have had the same problem, though usually when buying second hand.

Hope this helps if not pm and I'll send you the registry keys.

thanks no didnt get the software with the camera unfortunatly, i found the lists of code so to speek and tried but failed think it may be because im running windows 7. never mind i shall continue to use photo shop
thanks for your help guys

Canon don't give it away for free. Lost my disk once (found it again...) and I asked them. I forget where you can buy it but they certainly wanted you to pay.

my point being that i/we spend hundreds if not thousands on thier cameras and they dont provide a free download to their customers, all they have to do is ask for a serial number to stop unwanted downloadswhichis why i refuse to pay the £16 they want for it on disk. i would rather go with out! rant over

If you buy a car and lost the keys I think you have to pay for new ones.....

But why can you download the full Canon manuals but not the Software ? seems a bit strange to me as well

i suppose thats one way of looking at it but what does it actually cost them to download a piece of software? where as i could understand having to pay for new set of keys!

DPP and ZoomBrowser are not restricted to images generated on Canon cameras. Once the image is in JPEG (from any digital camera or scanner) then you can these pieces of "free" software that cost Canon a fortune to develop.

You also get photostitch which is awesome.

The question is why did you not get the discs with the camera, I presume you have bought it second hand, if so you should contact the seller and ask them to send you the CDs (for free of course)

As above, you only need to have the files installed on your PC from any previous Canon disc and then run the updates - the updates are normally the new full version (not an update as such), but require you to have a previous version - hence 'update' description.
