Hi guys, not sure I'm asking this in quite the right place, but here goes...

Just been playing with my new toy, a Canon Powershot S95, and have moved to look at the pics on PS Elements, but it won't recognise the raw files. Have checked out the updates only to find that the S95 requires Elements 9. Not good as I have elements 8. Is there any way around having to upgrade Elements?

Sorry can't answer your question but just being nosey how you are getting on with the S95 as it is on my short list?

Ooops just thought I have PE version 7 so will sure have the same problems as you if I get a S95

I only opened it up this morning, so I can't really comment too much, especially as I can't see the results of my efforts so far :( I seem to be finding my way around it OK but its soooooo small compared to my D300 - but that was the whole point of getting it......

I hope it all goes well as it sure has a very good write up. The low light is one of the better performers for a compact. I see on another thread it is the camera of choice for the 'pros' who want a second but pocket sized camera.

It would be good to see any images and in my case especially low light and any way you can ring any 'blurred background' type of shots which seems impossible for compacts.

If you want to carry on using the Adobe software to edit the RAW files, but don't want to pay for a newer version of Elements then your only option (afaik) is to convert your S95 RAW files to DNG files using the Adobe DNG Converter software.

There are other RAW converting software options, not least the DPP program that came with the camera. ;)

There are more options in the sticky at the top of the page too. ;)

Many thanks for the suggestion there :D I have downloaded the latest version (6.6) and I can't get it to recognise anything at all. Knowing how rubbish I am with computers I'm guessing I've done something wrong somewhere :(

Sorry, but I only know the theory of the DNG Converter as I've never had to use it.

I would assume you would use the program to choose the files to convert, and then convert them, but I'd just be guessing.

Hopefully someone will be along to help you. ;)

Thanks again :D I think I've worked it out - looks like you have to convert a whole folder at a time rather than just picking out the ones you want

You need the latest version of the dng converter but not the latest (6.6) camera raw file, that bits not compatable with elements 8.
You just use the dng converter to convert your raw then elements 8 should be able to view them (you may need the latest update for that version 4.6 ? I think off the top of my head)
