Certain models of cameras dont contain shutter count info.. so you can't use exif or tools (tools look at exif anyway)

I just got my 1dmkIV back from canon.. its been cleaned, tested and calibrated and charged 91 quid.. I completed the CPS repair form (platinum member) and asked for a shuter count...which I am sure I have recieved in the past.. but on the sheet it says

"We do not give out shutter information"

Since when? So effectively nobody can get a shutter count for cameras such as the 1dmkIII or 1dmkIV ? :(

The only reason I can think for this is to protect themselves from claims for "premature shutter failure", but yes a bit odd.

people rightly or wrongly (different debate) like to see a shutter count when buying a used camera.. its one of the first things asked... will make it harder to sell for sure :(

Suppose you have a rough idea of how many you've taken but very odd indeed!

It must be getting close to the end of its life then, I'll give you a fiver for it :D

Someone mentioned this recently, can't recall if was here or on twitter, but same thing, camera had been to Elstree and they sent it back with out the asked for shutter count, same response. It does seem a little odd, but would certainly make things awkward when selling or if you wanted to try to claim against them for a prematurely failed shutter :suspect:

I dont think you can claim for premature failed shutter as the numbers are only guedelines. and they do replace them under a 2 yr warranty no matter how many clicks...

I just cant understand for the life of me why not.. and iits gonna be awkward.. not just selling buy buying.. who to believe re usage?

I got mine from A.J.Johnstone, no problem.

Think Canon need to get their act together!

I sent mine previous to be sold and they provided the shutter count no problems. That was last march.

I have had a shutter count from them before with i think a mkIII ... It must be a new thing.. :( Mine seems to be cheaper than yours as well ? :)

EOS Count did not work for my loaned 1DMKIV showed 78464 took 20 shots reconnected the camera and mmmm.... no change.

WOW... that's well out of order mate. No wonder you are cheesed off with them.
I just don't get it, they have been really good to me thus far..
Yeah I noticed the price diference...

tried both my mkIVs and it seems to work OK.. Have you tried recently? ahs it been updated since you last tried or was this today?

I've just done it and... no change on taking shots
Is a CPS loaner while I wait for the 1Dx to arrive. Maybe is Booby trapped l:lol:

On the face of it this looks like pretty poor service from Canon.

I can think of no legitimate reason why they would not give out this information since they clearly can; if they feel like doing so !

I see EOSCount is now charging $1.49 per count. Worthwhile if you're selling but not if you just want an idea for yourself.

Off topic but I have just looked at Bob's link above -

I'd be off to the small claims court.

I guess myshuttercount will not work either then?

Not with the 1DIV.

Good point Dave - he would have paperwork to prove what it was when it was with Canon.

Considering the rest of that thread (and the fact the buyer thinks the shutter count supplied is false), that might not necessarily be correct.

My tongue was planted so firmly in my cheek that the tip was sticking out of my ear :)

Ah it got lost in translation over the Channel.

I read somewhere that it's also called 'The German Sea' !!

Angela Merkel was on her way to a conference in Paris.

Going through immigration control the officer said

'German?'

'Yes' she replied

'Occupation?'

'No just visiting'

:lol::lol:
