Folks,

We have a Canon 550D with about 2 years/40k clicks of hard use and it is feeling a bit tired.

Some cosmetic bits have cracked/fallen off and there is a problem where the view through the viewfinder seems very fuzzy, but the actual photos are still spot-on.

It all seems quite minor, but we'd of course like it back to A1 condition for the new year.

I'm based in Leeds and just wondered where people recommend to get minor bits like this sorted out? Any good camera shops or repair places in this part of the world?

Thanks

I'm afraid I can't recommend anywhere close to Leeds specifically as I live in London (and have always heard good things about Canon Elstree in Hertfordshire). One thing I was going to mention though is whether perhaps the diopter has been knocked so as to make the viewfinder appear out of focus? It's the tiny little dial to the top right of the viewfinder, and for normal eyesight, should be centred.
Just thought I'd add that in if that's the most major annoyance!

My internet research suggests dioptre as the likely issue with the viewfinder so I will check that out. Thanks for the Elstree suggestion also :)

Thanks for the suggestion, Chris.
Will give them a look.
The diopter issue was the viewfinder problem, so thanks very much for that advice. :)

Any non official repair centre will most likely have to send it off to Canon anyway dependent on the issues, cut out the middleman and send it straight there yourself.

Hmm, I thought the same, but my 'issues' are more cosmetic than anything serious.
I'm not sure whether to say, 'Sod It' and leave the body as it is.

I live in Birstall too btw, very small world!

Church Road for me Ben, just off A62 near smithies junction.

Post above could be right, ive used Dale in Leeds before, excellent traditional type of shop on top floor of St Johns centre, think its run by an old guy and 2 sons, the repair guy only does 2/3 days a week so you need to call first.

I'll give Dale a try, thanks both for the recommendation.

I'm up near Fieldhead in Birstall, unfortunately!

Haha near enough to have been robbed a few times over the years!
