Hi all, happy new year.

Unfortunately I need to pop my 1 DS2 into Elstree tomorrow. Does anyone know what the turn around time is on CPS repairs ? I've heard 2-3 days, but wondering if anyone has any actual experiences ?

Also, does anyone know the rough price of a shutter replacement, as one of the leaves have popped out.. I have heard around £300..

Thanks for any information...

JB.

they "try" to give a 3-4 day turnaround but if parts required then no way...

300 sounds about right

Thanks for the super swift reply !!

Do you know how much a sensor clean is now ?

I remember a few years back they used to clean for free for CPS members, but then started charging, buggers !! Might get the backup camera done at the same time... Spring clean and all that.

only had multiple rapairs to a mkIII done through them as a CPS member.. thye pretty much say they try for 3 days but if its a repair it could be longer.. standard stuff they should do quick..

I looked into replacement shutter for my MKII and it was around 300 because i sold mine 300 less than going rate as it had 180k clicks

Is there an overall counter anywhere hidden away in a menu somewhere on the 1ds2 for the total number of frames shot ?

I must admit, I'm still a little surprised that I am anywhere near the quoted 200-250,000 frames fired, and I have heard of some shutters being replaced for free when they are a long way under that figure.

I have a 1dmk2 which has had a lot more frames fired than the ds2 as it was used solidly for motorsport, and (touch wood) it hasn't gone bang just yet...

It is my view that people put a bit too much emphasis on shutter counts. I understand that it gives an indication of use, but most hobbyists who buy a camera with 120k on it, aren't likely see the shutter die on them.

I have had new D2h bodies with an expectancy of 200k that were in for shutters after 40k, as well as D1 bodies with an expectancy of 100k that ran for 330k before needing any attention.

Why not put a jar next to your computer, and instead of the £15 you would spend on film and processing for 72 prints after a day out, put £1.50 in the jar for the 720 pics you download to the computer?
