Welcome to the world of printing. I've only had mine a short time and am completely addicted!

You may already know, but there is a guy on YouTube called José Rodriguez who is very knowledgeable about printing and may help you get the most out of it - don't turn it off and print something every couple of days to prevent it going through a cleaning cycle and wasting inks. In some ways I feel it's the same as buying a horse or a pet :rolleyes: I'm still loving it though.

Edit (on 20/12/18) The latest idea seems to be that printing often does not stop the cleaning cycles from happening - they're going to happen anyway.

Just picked up a secondhand Pro 10, still had the initial set of inks in it with enough left for all the cleaning processes.
Fortunately came a with a complete set of new ones too, so replaced the lot to start afresh.
Connected easily with wifi using the wps button on the router, came with paperwork, but the cd's had been misplaced.

Downloaded the software I wanted and tried a small print for starters, can see this printing lark becoming a bit addictive and costly too i'm sure
Excellent quality and no doubt potential for much better with a few adjustments here and there.
Looks like my monitor calibration is pretty good, maybe needs the brightness down a notch or two

Now for some paper, will probably start with Canon although I do have an A4 test pack of Permajet
Quite a bit to learn, but sure there will be plenty of grotty winter days for that

Just seen I have contributed to this thread a few pages back, shows how strong my resolve is

Tried to justify getting one of the 199 quid A3 printers, but just didn't have the space or need for it. Hardly ever print above A4 and for those rare occasions its economical to get it done online

Does the printer see them ok, presumably would think they are empty?
My old printer which my daughter used all through uni had third party inks, but the cartridges were chipped

Has anyone ever seen the slightest bit of technical information about what the difference is between these two media types?

No, but I think in other papers, the higher quality is ,1 and lower quality 2,3,4
 
Can anybody help please,having a nightmare trying to print b&w prints.
I have a canon 100s & I Mac.i have calibrated the monitor & installed custom paper profiles from fotospeed.
But no matter what I try my prints come out blue.they look fine on the monitor.
I can’t turn off colour management in the printer driver?
I have tried printing from Lightroom,photoshop & canons pro studio all with the same results.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a MacBook Pro and when I choose an icc profile it automatically turns off the colour management - mine is greyed out under colour matching. I think this happens on all Macs.

I asked a Canon rep as my prints were coming out a little too warm (on a Pro 1) and he told me to calibrate to 5000K rather than the 6500K that is usually recommended. (He said Canon printers should always be calibrated to 5000K) I don't know whether the colour temperature you choose could have a bearing on your results?

I guess it would be interesting to try it out with some Canon paper to see whether it could be the profile that is the problem. Are you using Canon inks?

Edit - I meant calibrating the monitor to 5000K for a Canon printer - not calibrating the printer!

Strange - have you tried letting the printer manage the colour with Canon paper? The only other thing I can think of is clicking the B&W option under Quality and Media - but neither of these are really a solution.

The only other things I can think of is a nozzle check, in case something is blocked and checking that nothing is selected in Color options.

Just wandered in as I spotted we were getting a few people visiting from this forum and wanted to gently correct the above as we don't actually sell the OctoInkjet inks as "identical" to the OEM as we don't have access to the same raw materials as Canon on some of the inks. What we do have is a pretty good match that sometimes requires a little adjustment or out of the box thinking to overcome. I do tend to underplay what we have but I'd rather we promised slightly less and delivered better, instead of letting peoples hopes get overly inflated and then dashed.

Hope that doesn't burst any dream sequences of folk running across a field of corn with a Canon printer and our inks... ;)
 
Hi all,
Its a bit of hair pulling and desperation
I have had my pro 100S for approx 22months so out of warranty. Its decided to not switch on!
Have done the usual checks, fuse, cable even removed the power supply and its showing some voltage so it appears to be Ok.
Telephoned Canon service centre and they say its 99% the Logic Board.
By the time I get it to them in Woking the repair costs fall around £300 based on replacement part,labour,transport costs and potentially throwing away a recently changed set of inks! So have decided to get a new one from J. Lewis cos they include a 2 year warranty as against WEX who only offer 1year.

Anyway now to the question How can I get the ink carts out of the now defunk printer? With no power at all the carriage is parked on the right side and no amount of prodding and pulling it will not move. So short of getting a hacksaw to the case I am stumped.

Canon do not and will not supply a service manual so I is stuffed.
Any help/suggestions would be gratefully received.

Have you tried phoning and speaking to the Woking 3rd party servicing agent. I wonder if they might at least, if asked specifically, tell you how to dismantle it and/or a tech "wheeze" that might release the ink head carriage so that it can be manually pull into a position where the carts can be removed???

Martin, thanks for the clarification (I did say 'reckoned'!!!), I do understand that they will made differently, but my experience so far is very positive, so well done on a great product at a great price!

Tried that with no joy. Told only available to service centre.

Problem solved now. New printer arrived today so i carried on with attempts to release the printer carriage. In the end had to cut open the side then found the wheel mechanism that operated the carriage lock. Now able to remove carts and print head. So I now have a spare print head and a full set of inks. So with savings on repair parts, labour,ink set + a new spare printer head, two year warranty and saving on fuel costs I reckon I have just about broke even. Sad really because if service manual was available I estimate i could have repaired it for approx £75 and saved the planet the old printer and box going down the tip!

You could perhaps wait a little while and then quote the proposed changes to EU legislation regarding the ability for end users to repair their products... It might not get immediate results but at some point Canon and the other OEM's may have to consider a change in policy... FWIW, there's other users who are ripping into their Canon printers for waste ink purposes so you could post up on Printerknowledge for example and see if anyone else is or has taken apart a Pro-100 enough to be able to resolve you specific problem.

Back in May last year (IIRC!), my main desktop 'puter went into a coma (so to speak) and it took me until mid January to get around to getting it sorted. Despite not being used for over 6 months, my 100 fired up, blew its nose (went through its nozzle clearing sequence) and printed perfectly first try. Pretty chuffed not to have needed a deeper clean of the nozzles! TBH, I'm fairly chuffed that the thing worked at all after being laid up for so long!
 
Would you guys choose a canon pro 1 printer at 299 over a newer model? I posted this on the main thread but have only just came across this thread. I am looking at printing images of babies and school stuff and not in large numbers as I use DS Colour for my regular school photos. This is for stragglers and the baby stuff.

I guess I'm not wanting anything too complicated to set up and not knowing much about these would a newer model be simpler to connect via wifi and would the print quality in a 300 quid newer machine stack up against a pro holder model.

Any advice welcome.

There is a learning curve with printing at home - personally I love printing, but these printers need to be used frequently. They go through cleaning cycles which wastes ink. I leave my Pro 1 turned on all of the time and try to use it several times a week so that the cleaning cycles are only light ones.

The Pro 1 is a pigment ink printer, so the prints should last longer than a dye ink printer, though I believe dye ink printers are less likely to clog. Have a look at this guy's channel (below) on YouTube - some of the earlier videos give the impression that you can avoid the cleaning cycles, but in later ones he shows this is not so - however I do think if you use it often then they are not too bad.

There is a Pro 1 video playlist on his site - I’ve removed link as it gave the impression it was all about refilling cartridges - only some of them are! Better to look yourself at the relevant ones.

I believe using wireless to print can be problematic, and I think with some models you have to wire them up at first to set them up even if you intend to use wireless.

Well the mother of all mounts arrived today 3ft x 2ft with a custom aperture for a 2:1 ratio print. printed on Fotospeed Matt Ultra (13in x 23.4in cut down A2 and fed through an A3+ printer Pro-100) - (picture taken in Dinorwic, with Llyn Peris, with Snowdon in cloud off to the right)

Well so the learning curve starts for me today as got myself the Pro100s. Needed to make some alterations to the office before I had somewhere for it to sit as slightly under estimated the size.

Really looking forward to getting started on the long journey of printing my images.

I am looking at getting the 100s too but am annoyed that we have to pay £350 for it when it can be bought in the USA for $149 after getting $250 rebate and some reviewers on youtube even managed to buy it for $49 last year!!

Yep they get crazy discounts in the US. Nowhere else though :confused: They’re usually discounted at The Photography Show if you can wait another year.

Sounds like a loss leader just to make money from future ink sales
 
Anyone know what if any are the differences between the PRO 100 and the Pro 100s
