I am currently using a canon i850 printer, which is not bad, but i have had it several years, and i am looking for a new printer. The canon pixma pro 9000 mark 11. Looks very good, but my question is am i going over the top with this printer,i do not make money with my photographs,i just enjoy taking photos. i look forward to your advice, tubby.

I've had the canon pixma pro 9000 mark 1 for a few years now.¨Prior to buying, I was debating wether I was going over the top as I simply do photography for my own pleasure and make no income from it.
Basically I was fed up of using average "do everything" printers and being dissapointed with the results.
I took the plunge eventually after many many searches and reading of reviews etc and have never looked back.....the quality is superb, the ability to print upto A3+ size is a dream for me as i love to print large and the speed at which it throws out a print is pretty impresive!
If I was to have a gripe it would be the printing of the "true" b&w photos takes for ever 20 mins for an A3) as there is only one black ink cartridge although i believe there are three black/greys cartridges in the mark II so perhaps this problem has been overcome.
B&W prints can be done faster but means that the colour cartridges are used to make the greys which tend to leave a red or green tone on the final print.
I did consider epson printers but was informed by more than one person ( not on TP) that the inks tended to coagulate if not used for some time and sometimes blocked the header......how much of a problem this really is I don't know but as for the Canon, I have sometimes gone 3 months plus without making a print and never had any problems with blocked jets etc.
Hope this helps

Thanks Asha. i think i wiil probably get the canon pixma pro 9000 mark 11

Welcome to TP John. We have a Pixma Pro 9500 MKII at work which produces excellent results and seems pretty economical on ink.
