Has anyone bought a camera from Canon Outlet on eBay, if so what are your thoughts?

Yes I've bought lots from there and all good
- Although the odd few have had issues.

Thanks, they have few 60D bodies at the moment, which seem a decent price considering they are UK spec and have a full Canon warranty.

I bought a mkIV ..had loads of trouble getting payment to them.. they are based in Ireland..But no problem with the goods..

Check with Kerso too. UK receipt and fully warranted. He's usually cheaper too.

Edit - I see it's a lot cheaper on the CO site! good find :)

I've bought a body and a lens and I'm very satisfied.

Bought a lens, no problem. The box was massive though, must have been 18"+ a bit big for a nifty fifty!

Thats interesting. It says on their site that they are in Northampton United Kingdom.

They used to be in Ireland, not any more, stuff comes from the uk, but they are based in Luxenburg now.

You used to be able to ring them up and have a good chat about any problems , not these days, they arent chatty and always say email, email email.

I've bought a few lens from them. So far I've been very impressed, I think most stuff is stock that has had it's box damaged in storage so the kit is new but has had to be checked so the box has been opened. There are some genuine bargains released every now and then - but if you blink you'll miss them. I saw a 17-40 F4L for less than £200!

seems they moved to luxombourg according to Balb0wa ? they where in ireland when i dealt wiht them.. look dodgier by the minute dont they haha.. but payment was my only problem like i say.. goods and delivery no problem

They aren't dodgy, they have decent feedback for the amount of things they sell.

This negative made me laugh the other day, bloke ordered a 600D got sent a camcorder :D

"Sent £80 camcorder. Didn't even have the item to sell! Took a week for refund"

They used to have major payment problems, but thats fine these days, my paypal email always got rejected, and they had to put stuff through manually.

But if they've moved to Luxembourg it may be to avoid paying tax here in the UK. A number of large companies like Amazon have done this and it means that the rest of us have to pay more. I count behaviour like that as dodgy.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/b...has-paid-no-tax-in-uk-since-2009-8212579.html

I think ireland offered a lot of good deals to places, sweeteners , all that run out, so places moved to Luxenberg.

You cant blame them, giving billions away in foreign aid, thats dodgy.

It seems that the Canon Outlet is operated by Digital River on Canon's behalf

e2a: it wouldn't be surprising if means you're dealing with Digital River in Ireland (and paying Irish VAT) for fulfilment, though their head office is in Luxembourg (corporation tax implications unknown at this point).

What were the issues and were they easily resolved?

The issues were not mine - By that I meant there's an odd few people who've had issues (same with any company). If you do a search I'm sure you'll get more data.

I've not had any issues with them.

I tend to buy Canon compacts from them : all good, cheap, fast delivery.
Also printers really cheap, again good, never a problem.
Their starting prices have gone up a lot lately ...
I never bought anything for more than £70, though.

I have used them, nothing bad to say at all, my 40D looked brand new even two other photographers said the same, had no issues what so ever

I've bought, for myself and others:
2 x DSLR's
1 compact
1 laser printer
1 inkjet printer
1 dye sub printer
1 scanner

all great, no problems.

i bought my previous body 1100d new from them with a good price very happy with them no problem

I recently bought a Lenovo laptop directly from Lenovo.
That too was handled by Digital River.

I've bought two items from the CO store, an SLR and more recently a flash gun.
Both looked new to me. The flashgun box had an Argos part number label on the box. So was probably unsold stock.

I look at their listing regularly but have only just placed my first order with them so am hoping it all goes well.

Well so far so good. Placed my order late Friday afternoon, shipped on Saturday and arrived this morning just after 10am. Much faster delivery than suggested on the listing and the camera looks as new (only the sticker the box shows that it isn't) now just waiting for the battery to charge so I can have a play with it.

I have a 50% success rate with buying from the UK Canon outlet.

First thing was a "Refurbished" G7 which came in the original box with all accessories and worked fine, and was under half the retail price.

Then I bought a cheap Powershot compact as a present for my son, but it had a problem with the mode seting switch. Refunded in full.

I bought a discontinued Ixus 95 which seemed to be surplus stock from 'Argos' since it came in a box with an obvious Argos stock code on it. Absolutely brand new and unopened, I still use it from time to time.

I bought a "Refurbished" IP4700 printer that wouldn't feed paper properly. When I enquired they didn't offer a refund but told me to take it to a Canon Service Centre. When I took it to the service centre (in Woking) the guy glanced at it and said "We don't fix those, just replace them - it might not be exactly the same model though." He then produced a brand new, sealed box IP4850 which has been working perfectly ever since I unpacked it. So I finished up with a brand new, latest (at that time) model for about half price!

I'd still consider using them if I could get a good deal on something I wanted.
They used to have auction listings, and I watched with amusement when some bidders would go over retail price for a "refurbished" item. Now they are "Buy it Now" price, so you know exaactly where you stand on cost.

To those looking at a 60D, check retailers carefully, since prices have dropped recently, and there is also a "cashback" running at present.

Cheers,
Brian
