Hello,

I own a Canon 400d along with the Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro lens.

I know the Sigma EM140 DG Macro Flash with a 62mm Adaptor is compatible, but is the Canon MR-14EX Macro Lite also compatible?

I cannot find anywhere (or are not looking close enough) if the Canon is compatible, but I am interested in the Canon unit as I understand it will work better with my 400d.

Thanks in advance of any advice you can give me.

Gary

Canon only do 3 adapter sizes - 52mm, 58m and 72mm IIRC. I've read somewhere that the Cokin A ring adapter can be used, but that's something you'll have to look into, I've no personal experience of that.

If all else fails there are flash brackets which will allow you to get the MR-14EX flash heads up on either side of the lens

The Sigma EM140 will work as well as the MR-14EX at a fraction of the price. I have the Sigma and very happy with it.

I have been looking for a flash to go on the end of my sigma 150. I cant justify the canon costs.
I havent heard any really bad reviews on either of them, just go with what you can afford. Luckily for me my lens is a 72mm thread

Lets throw this one in. Bargain at £100 :)

Would be interested to know anyones thoughts on it. Im looking for a ringflash and as a "casual" macro photographer could do the job at a fraction of the price

The only problem with this one is that you can't adjust the power asymmetrically, it just has one flash bulb.

Thanks but is the need for adjusting power asymmetrically essential to me?

I find it very usefull but it depends on how much macro you are planning on doing.

well I dont know! how long is a piece of string I guess :)

Something to bear in mind though

Thank you to those who have replied - I'm happy to choose the Sigma EM140, shame the lens I will be using it with requires me to buy an adaptor from Sigma!

Ta,

Gary
