You either need to open your aperture(fast glass) up the iso(new dslrs handle it well) or increase the shutter speed (tripod).....or use flash.
50mm 1.8 is an ace little lens, bear in mind its sharpens up at about f2.2 and at wide apertures you will have a really narrow band of focus wide open.
I agree with Hyster, the lens is spot on and a joy to use. If you can spend a little more or look for a second hand lens the 50mm f1.4 is even better and a sturdier build.
It will depend on how dark the church is, but if you want low ISO I don't think it will be fast enough handheld, and although it obviously depends on what you're trying to shoot on a crop body it's also probably a bit long.
thanks for your feed-back i forgot to say i will be using flash what inspires me most people say the iq is top notch looks like i'll be giving KERSO a shout
thanks
If you are using flash, a fast lens such as 1.8 or faster, is not so important. The nifty is a cracking little lens for the price you can get them, but depending on exactly what you will be shooting, you may want something a little wider.
thanks simon i have a 17-40L f4 i have to up the iso and give the flash plus 1.5 in doing this i get some noise i think with the nifty i can stand back a few feet
