Hi folks, a newbie here and pretty much to photography too. I have had film canons' a long time ago ( talking 15/20yrs) and enjoyed the experience. I have more time now and am really looking to getting a dslr instead of the point and shoot i have now. I have been lurking on these boards for a while reading as much as i can.
Ok so here is my question, i am looking to buy a Canon (possible option anyway) but have no idea of the differences in them so when i see a model up for sale ( been looking on here) i cant gauge where it sits in the spectrum of models.

Is there anywhere that will tell me either when each model was released, by year, or some kind of price structure. I realise they will have differing features but right now i am trying to get as reasonable one as i can price wise, as i build up the knowledge to know what i want. All i want to be able to do is when i see for example a 400d for sale i can have a vague idea of where it sits in the price/feature structure. Hope that makes sense :)

I think wikipedia has a canon dslr timeline

Many thanks for that, very useful, just what i wanted.

The 'side-by-side' tool on DPReview is very useful as well for comparing specs of different camera models:

This will tell you the time-line:
