Yes
Has anybody used this ?
I have done quite a bit of research into the MT14EX and some say that it makes the shot look a bit flat so I was thinking about the MT24EX, it's a lot of money for a flash.
I would like to know what you think of the results.
I was wordering if I should stick with the 580exII because quite often I have my lens on the ground to try to get a better shot but the ring will make the lens bigger.

I use the MT-24ex on my MPE, the ring that holds the two flash units has the bottom squared of which allows you to get closer to subject and also helps to steady a little, the lens cap and filters fit direct to this ring as well.

Hope this helps

Mitch

Also have an MT24 EX, courtesy of Ian, which makes it almost reasonable!!! in price.

Not done a lot of trials, but I like the way the individual heads can be detached and mounted seperately.

Good flash.

ps was about £395 or so.

Cheers for that Mitch
I will be using it with an MPE, have you ever tried the MPE with an EX flash, I just can't make up my mind if its price is justified.
Am I correct in thinking that you also require an extra adapter ring for it to fit the MPE ?

Cheers George
All advise much apreciated.

No adapter needed on 58mm so 100mm and Mpe are ok not sure about other macro lenses.

You need to get so close with the Mpe that the only way to light the subject is with the ringflash or the 24ex twinlight.
The 24ex is better as you can move the lights around the ring and direct the light towards or away from the subject and bounce back in to diffuse.

Another MT24EX user here. Yes, it can produce flat lighting sometimes, which is common for all ring light type flashes. This unit has the advantage though of being able to position the two lights around the lens, vary the power between the two heads, or switch one off altogether, and supports Hi Speed sync.

In all honesty, I don't think you'll find a better solution for flash macro photography. I use mine with the 180L Macro for which an adapter is required - I think they're about 20 quid.

I looked at this but eventually went for the Sigma ring flash instead...EM-14 DG. All the features seem to match the MT24 but at about 70% of the price. It comes with a couple of adaptors for different filter threads but other sizes are readily available.

I think I must be an idiot, what's an MPE??

Canon 65mm Macro lens that gives you up to 5X lifesize without the need for coupling lenses or adapters, it's an amazing lens but i would say one that you need a lot of time and patience for.

Thanks for your opinions everyone
