I've had a dabble with my mates set up but I think it needs a bit of time to get the best from it. His has gary fong diffusers on and he thinks the twin flash is the mutts nuts. I use the canon ring flash which suits my abilities more at the moment.
You might get better response posting in the macro and close up Kevin as there are a few users there.
I have got the Canon MT-24 EX Twin Lite that I use often when doing macro. I quite like it, I have also got the diffusers mentioned by Ploddles. It does get in the way though, quite bulky.
Bought mine from MPB at a steal a number of years ago, was brand new with the macrolite adapters included. One of these days I am going to get the MP-E 65mm and put it to better use.
I have to admit though that I would first investigate something like a Canon Speedlite 420EX with an extension cord and diffuser, I bought a 2nd hand one and will eventually get around to testing and comparing it. Many guys use them with excellent results.
