Yes
For the record, I had a Nikon D50, and now a Nikon D80. Excuse my knowledge of Canons. ;)

Is it me but do Canon release more models, more often? It seems the 300D became the 400D, and 20D became the 40D in not such a long period of time.

Whereas Nikon D70 became a D80, and D100 is about to become the D300, over quite a longer period of time.

Didnt the D100 become the D200 then the D300 ?

And the D70 become the D70s before it went D80 ?

Im a Canon user so am not 100% familiar with Nikons range, so not 100% sure what happened with the D70S ?

The 300D became the 350D then the 400D

10D became the 20D then 30D then the 40D

Yes and Nikon look like they will pass Canon in the features on a Camera the customer wants with canon playing catch up for the first time in a long time.

the Nikon D3 is superb, and dare I say maybe better than the 1dmk3 !! ( I will be using a D3 for some surf comps in 2008 as a client is supplying gear.)

with the rumours of a Nikon 24mp FF camera for next year things are really hotting up now (apparently nikon shelved plans for a 18mp ff camera when they got wind of the 1dsmk3 and went to work on the 24mp camera)

So it would seam things are a changing, should be an interesting 2008

Cute. Until you see the sales figures, and the bottom line. Then tell me again, with a straight face, that customers want Nikon over Canon...

You missed one - D2H

D1, D1X, D2, D2H, D2Hs, D2X, D2Xs, D3

D3X will be next

Ought to include the pro series Canon as well :)

1D, 1D Mk2, 1D MK2N, 1D MK3

1DS, 1DS Mk2, 1DS Mk3

The refresh doesnt look quite so out of proportion if you look at the models both manufacturers have released ?

Surely that must mean that Nikon gets it right first time, while Canon have to keep releasing upgrades???

It probably means that Nikon wait for Canon to do it first then "Nik" the good ideas.

.. not sure if that means Nikon just clever plagiarists or sneaky...

Call it what you will, I keep hearing horror stories of Pro Phots going through Canon bodies at a hell of a rate due to build quality - they're just not tough enough for Fleet Street (or Gaza Strip...lol). Current life expectancy of a Canon Pro body on the street is between 6 and 12 months - I know two Reuters Phots who've killed theirs in less than three, mainly seals failing and LCD displays blacking-out in high temperatures.
I just think Canon rush things out to capture the market without doing enough R&D first.
My Nikons may not hold the edge when it comes to pure image quality, but when you consider the use the majority of these images are destined for, it's still better than required, whereas the build quality on Nikon Pro bodies is legend.
BTW most Pros (Press) users who do use Canons buy the EOS-1D rather than the EOS-1Ds as the file sizes generated are too cumbersome.
